The A6 is taking a break!

From March 1st to 4th, drivers will face a detour marathon.

SÜDWEST24 reveals where it goes.

On the first weekend in March, the A6 experienced a complete closure, which was washed away.

The reason for this is the dismantling of the B39 overpass near Schwetzingen/Hockenheim.

Both in the direction of Mannheim and in the opposite direction, road users must prepare for a complete closure from March 1st from 8 p.m. to March 4th at 5:00 a.m.

Because good planning is (at least) half the battle, SÜDWEST24 has summarized all the important diversions for road users.

A6 motorway will be completely closed – all diversions at a glance

Extensive diversions have been set up to avoid the jungle of construction sites.

Here is an overview of national transport:

  • Mannheim, Frankenthal, Saarbrücken targeted?

From the Walldorf motorway junction, dynamic signposts guide you via the A5 to the Heidelberg motorway junction, from where the A656 leads to Mannheim and on to the A6.

  • On the way to Heilbronn, Karlsruhe or Stuttgart?

From the Mannheim motorway junction, take the A656 to the Heidelberg junction and then onto the A5 towards Basel/Karlsruhe, with options to switch back to the A6.

  • Kaiserslautern/Saarbrücken in your sights?

At the Hockenheim triangle, follow the U99 to the A61 (direction Koblenz) until the Frankenthal junction, where the A6 picks you up again.

  • On the way to Hockenheim?

Take the Hockenheim junction onto the A61 and exit at the Hockenheim junction onto the L722.

Additional diversions will be set up directly at the Schwetzingen/Hockenheim junction:

  • Towards Mannheim?

Take the B39/B291 near Schwetzingen/Hockenheim and follow the U74.

It leads via the L599 directly to Schwetzingen and then via the B36 back to the A6.

  • Heilbronn in sight?

At the same junction, the U99 cleverly directs you to the L722 and back to your route.

An appeal for smooth traffic

In order to avoid unnecessary backlogs on supposed “secret routes” and thus keep the burden on road users and residents as low as possible, the Autobahn GmbH Südwest branch urgently appeals to people to follow the signposted diversion routes and switch off their own navigation systems.

A little patience and an eye on the signage can save you a lot of time and stress.

From March 5th, traffic at the Schwetzingen/Hockenheim junction will return to normal.

Until then: have a good trip on a detour!

Speaking of the A6: After heavy snowfall in January, a total of 18 vehicles crashed on the motorway.
