Twelve people were injured in a traffic accident on Autobahn 27 in the Cuxhaven district.
Four of those involved sustained serious injuries, the police announced on Friday morning.
A total of four cars crashed into each other in the accident between the Hagen and Stotel junctions.
How exactly the accident happened was initially unclear.
Bremerhaven - The police assume a rear-end collision.
The motorway in the direction of Cuxhaven was closed for around three hours.
Except for the seriously injured, all those involved in the accident were released from the hospital.
