Historian Patrick Rotman visiting his former high school in Enghien: “Documentary is a school of precision”

Whether it was the walks on the frozen Enghiens Lake during the winter of 1962, the film club sessions hosted on Saturday afternoons by French teachers, “rituals” which helped to give him a taste for cinema.


As part of the “An artist at school” operation, the famous documentary filmmaker Patrick Rotman came to share his passion with high school students.


He had not returned since 1966 and obtaining his baccalaureate.

The author, historian, documentarian and screenwriter Patrick Rotman was visiting his former high school Gustave Monod in Enghien-les-Bains this Thursday morning.

Whether it was the walks on the frozen Enghien Lake during the winter of 1962, the film club sessions hosted on Saturday afternoons by French teachers, “rituals” which helped to give him a taste for cinema, or his visits to the kiosk at Enghien station, while he took public transport to reach the establishment and his home in Pierrefitte (Seine-Saint-Denis).
