Together with 130 other municipalities in Bavaria, Holzkirchen can now adorn itself with the title of “bicycle-friendly municipality”.
The Working Group for Bicycle-Friendly Municipalities in Bavaria (AGFK) presented Mayor Christoph Schmid with the award at a ceremony in Munich.
Holzkirchen – The jury of bicycle experts praised Holzkirchen’s strong networking within the bicycle-friendly community.
In addition, the local council has set the course for increased cycling traffic with appropriate resolutions, the first measures have already been implemented and others are in preparation.
The functioning structures of citizen participation when it comes to cycling were also highlighted.
“With the Round Table for Walking and Cycling Friendly Holzkirchen, we have a committee made up of committed citizens, the administration and representatives of the market town council who are committed to improving the conditions,” says Christoph Schmid.
The title of “bicycle-friendly community” has now been valid for seven years.
A further evaluation of the bike-friendly development will then be carried out.
“We are by no means at the end of our efforts, but are continuing to work hard,” says Holzkirchner mobility manager Tim Coldewey.
The community of Gmund am Tegernsee is now officially bicycle-friendly.
