Joint rallies with representatives of the climate protection movement are also planned in many places.

Strike on Friday: “A social-ecological transport transition is possible - and helps us all”

“The employees have contributed their part to the mobility transition,” explained Verdi deputy chairwoman Christine Behle.

“Politicians at all levels must now take the challenges of the climate crisis seriously and implement measures for sustainable and future-oriented mobility.”

“A social-ecological transport transition is possible - and helps us all,” explained Liv Manthey from the climate protection movement Fridays for Future.

“With the climate strike on March 1st, we are showing that the fight for relief for BVG employees, for passengers and for the climate can only be won together.”

Verdi had been calling for a “wave strike” since Monday to put pressure on the ongoing collective bargaining for the approximately 90,000 employees in local public transport.

The alliance is “strategically smart,” he told the news portal “Web.de News”.

“It shows that the unions also have an eye on the cohesion of society as a whole.

At the same time, advocating for good work, a good climate and the best mobility is an example of a win-win-win situation.”

The two-day warning strike in local public transport has also started as planned in Hesse.

Passengers in Wiesbaden, Kassel and Frankfurt/Main have to prepare for significant disruptions to buses, trams and subways on Friday and Saturday, as the Verdi union announced.
