The Mario Praz Museum, dedicated to the famous Anglicist, critic and essayist who lived there from 1969 until his death in 1982, was reopened on March 1st in the apartment of Palazzo Primoli, in via Zanardelli in Rome.
The house-museum contains decades of passionate collecting and reflects his tastes and inclinations: from the love for the Napoleonic period to the interest in interior furnishings and everyday objects from the same period, which together form and concretely bring back to us the taste of a era, to the profound attention to detail visible in the careful choice of the position of each object, based on not only aesthetic but also cultural and intellectual correspondences.
"Today we add another small but precious piece to our cultural heritage, the house museum of Mario Praz, a witty literary critic and Anglicist - declares the Minister of Culture, Gennaro Sangiuliano who inaugurated the reopening after the restorations - The houses often reflect the characters personal and intellectual lives of their inhabitants. I like to remember Praz's non-conformism, his position as a detached observer, typical of the conservative, which led him to a harsh criticism of 1968".
The operation was possible thanks to the intervention of the general directorate of museums of the Ministry of Culture, led by Massimo Osanna, who in this phase also holds the role of advocating director of the directorate of state museums of the City of Rome, of which the museum is part. .
"A particularly evocative place that tells us about an important personality of Italian and European culture reopens to the public. Thanks to the recently completed restorations, the new assignments of dedicated staff and the additional funding allocated, this house-museum is a candidate for an essential destination in visit itineraries in the heart of Rome, also with a view to an important diversification of the cultural offer" comments Osanna.
The Museum will open to the public on March 2nd, for the moment, in promotional form, entry will be free.
During the temporary closure period, the MiC oversaw in-depth restorations coordinated by the museum director, Francesca Condò.
