Highlights: Million dollar cost shock: renovation of the building for further education is higher than expected. At exactly 6,744,303.19 euros, the councilors unanimously drew a line at the most recent meeting. A few thousand euros could of course be added. After the agreement with almost all companies, a legal dispute with an engineering firm is still ongoing. In view of the immense cost increase, the amount in dispute of 14,100 euros, according to the municipality, appears to be quite manageable.

The municipality of Neubiberg is around 33 percent more than the original cost calculation for the renovation of the building for further education.

Now the local council has drawn a line in the sand.

Neubiberg

– The municipality of Neubiberg is around 33 percent higher than the original cost calculation due to the unanimously passed cost resolution for the renovation of the House for Further Education (HfW) right next to the town hall.

The measure has now been completed.

But the numbers still irritated many a local council: at exactly 6,744,303.19 euros, the councilors unanimously drew a line at the most recent meeting.

A few thousand euros could of course be added.

After the agreement with almost all companies, a legal dispute with an engineering firm is still ongoing.

In view of the immense cost increase, the amount in dispute of 14,100 euros, according to the municipality, appears to be quite manageable.

Learn from this experience

The fact that the balance sheet for the undisputedly important renovation and modernization is now so significantly higher than the initial forecast of around 5.07 million euros was something that some councils were clearly still struggling with.

Thomas Maier (Greens) said: “There’s nothing we can do here anymore.

The only important thing is that we have changed and improved our numerical system based on our experience with this project - especially in view of the much more expensive town hall project." Unfortunately, the cost buffers incorporated there are still missing at the HfW, but are essential for the municipality's future major projects .

The CSU parliamentary group also saw it that way.

“The increase in costs is already bothering me,” said Bernhard Rott.

Financial officer Hartmut Lilge was initially “happy that the project is now finished”.

It is now important to learn from this experience.
