The ceremony should have been held on Thursday but, ironically, it was the day that Vladimir Putin chose to deliver his major general policy speech.
The funeral of his number 1 enemy, the Russian opponent Alexeï Navalny, who died in prison on February 16, should take place on Friday in the church of the Icon of the Mother of God.
This onion church, surrounded by Soviet building blocks, is located in the southern suburbs of the Moscow metropolitan area, where Navalny lived with his family.
His body is then expected to be buried in the rows of the austere Borisov cemetery, a thirty-minute walk away, across the Moskva River.
