Tested between February and summer 2022, the first sound radar in the world will be installed in Bron in eastern Lyon.
From now on, once the teaching has been completed, fines can be distributed during this experiment which will enter its second phase.
According to information from
Progrès
confirmed to Le
Figaro
by the Ministry of Ecological Transition, this radar which will punish vehicles that are too noisy will officially be in operation
“during 2024”
.
It will be installed again in Bron, but the exact site remains to be specified.
The fine will be that provided for fourth class infractions, that is to say a fixed fine of 135 euros maximum.
The level of sound emissions to be respected will be 85 A-weighted decibels, which correspond to the sound level actually perceived by the ear.
During the first test phase in Bron, this threshold was exceeded approximately once every two days, with traffic of nearly 8,000 vehicles/day.

Seven operations throughout France
“To date, two manufacturers out of the three tested are preparing the approval of their sound radar (Bruitparif and MicroDB). The sound radar deployed at Bron was a MicroDB radar. The devices have evolved based on the results observed during phase 1, to best prepare for this approval stage
,” indicated the Ministry of Ecological Transition.
In total, seven similar test operations were organized in France (community of communes of the Haute Vallée de Chevreuse, Nice, Paris, Rueil Malmaison, Toulouse and Villeneuve le Roi), supervised by the Ministry of Ecological Transition.
