New Jersey businessman Jose Uribe pleaded guilty this Friday to trying to bribe Democratic Senator Bob Menéndez and signed an agreement to cooperate with the Prosecutor's Office in the investigation of this case of alleged corruption.
Uribe accepted seven charges before a federal court in Manhattan, New York, including conspiracy to commit bribery, wire fraud, obstruction of justice and tax evasion.
Prosecutors allege he gave a Mercedes-Benz car to the senator's wife.
Under the plea agreement, Uribe could face up to 95 years in prison, although he can get leniency if he cooperates and testifies against the other defendants, which he agreed to do.
