A solo challenge: circumnavigation of Sardinia by kayak in just over a month of navigation.

Carlo Coni, 47 years old, from Cagliari, federal rowing instructor and passionate about the sea, is preparing to repeat the feat after having already completed it for the first time in 2018 in thirty-five days, twenty-four of navigation and eleven stops due to adverse weather and sea conditions, covering a total of 544 miles - just over a thousand kilometers - in 165 hours of paddling.

We leave on March 26th from Cagliari, in the small port of Marina Piccola.

"In 2018 I decided to undertake the circumnavigation of Sardinia for the first time, as a personal challenge - says Coni - I left with a kayak, made specifically for the occasion, renamed Diana, loaded with food, a tent for the night and some useful tools to navigation".

For the next challenge the kayak will immediately head east, towards the coast of Villasimius, and then continue around the island in an anti-clockwise direction.

The undertaking, this time, is part of a larger ecological-environmental project, 'All in the same boat', an initiative which will follow the path of the kayak on its journey with days dedicated to cleaning the coasts and internal areas.

"Everybody in the same boat - explains the protagonist of the enterprise - was born like this, thanks to the collaboration of a group of volunteers who want to show Sardinians and tourists how it is possible to immerse themselves in the beauty of our sea, protecting it and keeping its coasts clean, removing abandoned waste, in particular plastic and glass too often abandoned on our beaches and in the countryside".

    The strategies are already ready.

"To organize the waste collection operations we asked for the help of the municipalities, schools and associations. In the next few days - Coni announces - we will define a calendar with the dates and places affected by the initiative, which will always be updated and available on the website dedicated to the project:tuttinellastessabarca.it. For anyone wishing to participate, the sessions will always be open even on the go, the aim is to clean up as many coasts and internal areas during the circumnavigation".
