Global energy-related CO2 emissions increased by 1.1% in 2023, reaching a record high, mainly due to poor hydroelectric production caused by drought and the growth of China: says a report by the International Energy Agency (IEA ).
These emissions, which represent about 90% of the carbon dioxide emitted by humans, increased by 410 million tons, reaching 37.4 billion tons last year.
But the trend does not appear to be as bad as the previous year, when emissions increased by 490 million tons in 2022.
