Once a year there is an election for the Bavarian Beer Queen.

This time a candidate from the district made it into the top six: Anna Victoria Gansneder (26).

She is the daughter of district master craftsman Ludwig Gansneder.

Pöcking – It was more for fun that Anna Victoria Gansneder applied for the position of Bavarian Beer Queen.

“I've known the principle for a few years.

And I think it’s really cool that Bavaria has its own beer queen,” says the 26-year-old in an interview with Starnberger Merkur.

This time she filled out the form from the Bavarian Brewers Association - and is now one of the six finalists who will take part in an online vote in April.

The daughter of district master craftsman Ludwig Gansneder, who was born in Starnberg, grew up in Pöcking and now lives in Munich, never expected that she would make it this far.

Sure, it was just for fun.

But now she is very happy about it.

The Bavarian Beer Queen is the representative of Bavarian beer and all Bavarian breweries.

A total of 52 women from all over the Free State applied for the 2024/25 term.

Among other things, you must be at least 21 years old and grew up in Bavaria.

The application is made via an online form.

“You just tell a little something about yourself,” explains Anna Victoria Gansneder.

And what connection does she have to beer?

Her father brews beer as a hobby at home in the cellar.

The daughter was happy to help.

She was also part of a youth group that performed skits with Dableckn at the beginning of the Pöckinger Strong Beer Festival.

“I have a great connection to Bavarian culture,” sums up Gansneder, who has two younger brothers (20, 24).

Diverse and time-consuming tasks

From the 52 applicants, a jury selected 24 women in an internal pre-selection and invited them to the casting at the GOP Variety Theater in Munich last week.

“17 actually showed up,” says Gansneder – all in traditional costume.

The applicants first had to introduce themselves and answer a few questions about beer.

“For example, I was asked what I appreciated about the Purity Law,” recalls Gansneder.

“I was really excited that day.” The decision as to which six applicants would be included in the online voting was made immediately after the casting.

I was really excited that day.

Anna Victoria Gansneder about the casting in Munich.

The tasks as a beer queen are very diverse.

For example, the officials have to attend all folk festivals throughout Bavaria.

“The beer queen also does the toasting in an Oktoberfest tent, and she is part of the traditional costume procession through Munich,” says the 26-year-old.

It also represents Bavarian beer abroad.

All in all, the office is very time-consuming.

“There would probably be 150 to 200 appointments that year.” That would be an average of three to four appointments per week.

Anna Victoria Gansneder is an executive at the Bavarian Supply Chamber.

While working, she is doing a master’s degree in business law.

She also dances ballet twice a week at the Royal Academy of Dance.

“The office would require vacation and overtime,” she says.

Luckily, she has quite flexible working hours.

If she were to become beer queen, the 26-year-old would probably have to take a semester off.

“The year would really be an exceptional year.”

The election for beer queen

In the coming weeks, the candidates will go on a study trip to the Bavarian Brewery Museum in Kulmbach to prepare for their possible term of office.

The association also invites you to media training.

The 26-year-old has to draw attention to herself for the online vote – even though she is a bit “shameful”.
