The emergency room at Mainburg Hospital will remain open for the time being.

The district council decided on Friday to examine several options for the Hallertau clinic.

Hallertau

- The protests against the closure of the emergency room at the Mainburg hospital have not gone unheard: Although the Kelheim district council did not speak out in favor of maintaining the Mainburg hospital including the inpatient emergency room and inpatient basic hospital care with intensive care unit and internal medicine at its meeting on Friday morning, but at least this option is still in the running.

For the “Save the Mainburg Hospital” initiative, the result is “a partial success,” as co-initiator Annette Stattensack emphasized in the FT interview.

In front of around 70 listeners, the Kelheim district council debated the future of the Mainburg hospital for a good four hours on Friday.

After exhausting discussions, it was agreed to examine two possible options: downgrading the hospital to a health center without an emergency room etc. and maintaining the status quo.

In addition, it should be examined again whether the inpatient emergency room at the Mainburg Clinic can be maintained permanently.

With a vote of 51:6, this decision to review the options was clear.

There is also another decision in the pipeline: a possible new construction of a district hospital in the middle of the Kelheim district should also be examined.

The latter is completely incomprehensible for Nandlstadt's mayor Gerhard Betz, who has campaigned with his colleagues from the north of the district to maintain the emergency room: "I see a new building as unrealistic," he tells the FT.

“First you get upset about the six million euros that the Mainburg Hospital is making in losses, and then you suggest a new building that is probably in the three-digit million range.” The fact that the emergency room remains for the time being is “nice” for the trained emergency paramedic.

Nevertheless, Betz hopes for a “decision as quickly as possible so that there is clarity for the citizens and the staff”.

On Friday afternoon, Freising's district administrator Helmut Petz also made a clear statement about the Mainburg hospital.

After a conversation with his colleague from Kelheim, District Administrator Martin Neumayer, he knew “that it is important for district politics in the Kelheim district to look for ways to maintain the Mainburg Clinic, especially in the interest of providing emergency medical care close to home.

I support this stance.”

He signaled his “fundamental willingness to play an active role in securing the existence of the Mainburg Clinic and in particular in ensuring the continued existence of emergency care at the Mainburg Clinic.”

The vote now gives everyone responsible time to find a good solution for the region.
