During a search of Klette's house, a grenade was found, among other things.

Update from February 29th, 4:55 p.m.:

After the arrest of the former RAF terrorist Daniela Klette, investigators suspect that her accomplices Ernst-Volker Staub and Burkhard Garweg could be in Berlin, as reported by the Lower Saxony State Criminal Police Office and the Verden public prosecutor's office.

The investigators warned that there could be weapons and explosives in the apartments of the two wanted people.

This could pose a danger to the population.

Citizens are asked to support the police in the search.

Investigators had previously found, among other things, explosives, several weapons and a rocket-propelled grenade in the home of former RAF terrorist Klette in Berlin.

These include a Kalashnikov, a submachine gun and a handgun with ammunition.

Update from February 29th, 3:26 p.m.:

According to a spokesman for the public prosecutor's office, "heavy war weapons" were seized during the search of the former RAF terrorist Daniela Klette, as can be seen from an inquiry from

t-online

to the public prosecutor's office.

Even a submachine gun is said to have been found, as well as pistol magazines and ammunition.

A grenade was discovered by forensic scientists on Wednesday evening and removed.

According to information from dpa

, two other potentially dangerous objects were

also found in Klette's apartment; Daniela Klette, who has since been arrested, has so far remained silent about the allegations.

Police had been searching for remaining RAF terrorists for more than 30 years before Klette was arrested on Monday.

Update from February 29th, 9:54 a.m.:

Anyone who didn't know would probably have had a hard time guessing that Daniela Klette was a wanted former RAF terrorist.

At least if you believe what your neighbors say.

A woman from the same building told the

Bild newspaper

: “We lived on the same floor, her name is Claudia and she was a tutor and came home in the evening.

She didn't earn much and lived rather poorly.

She helped my son and I learn German.

And also to write a letter.” And further: “She often visited me for coffee.

And we cleaned the streets together on a voluntary basis.

She was my friend.

She's not a terrorist.

I don’t believe in that.”

But there is also great excitement in the neighboring houses.

A neighbor told the

Tagesspiegel

: “I lived next to my comrade for years, that doesn’t exist” – and then said goodbye with the slogan “Red Front”.

Police operation ended: residents back in their apartments

Update from February 29th, 7:27 a.m

.: As the police announced on X/Twitter, the operation in Klette's house has now ended.

“The measures taken by our emergency services in Sebastianstr.

in Kreuzberg have been completed,” the police wrote.

And further: “The residents can return to their apartments.” After the arrest of the former RAF terrorist Daniela Klette, the police took a grenade and other potentially dangerous objects from her apartment in Berlin-Kreuzberg.

The seven-story apartment building and adjacent houses were cleared for the operation.

The operation lasted several hours from the afternoon of February 28th to the early morning of February 29th.

Arrest of RAF terrorist Daniela Klette: grenade found during house search

Update from February 29th, 6:18 a.m.:

Several dangerous objects were found during the search of the RAF terrorist Daniela Klette's house, reports the

dpa

.

On the evening of February 28th, forensic scientists brought another grenade out of the house, which was later neutralized.

In the early morning of February 29th, two more finds were loaded into a special vehicle.

Neither the Berlin police nor the investigators in Lower Saxony provided any further information about what this was about.

The entire street remains cordoned off, a police spokesman said in the morning.

The residents have now been allowed to return to their apartments.

Klette probably had “support from the left-wing extremist spectrum”

After the RAF terrorist was arrested, the Association of German Criminal Investigators (BDK) assumes that the 65-year-old had support from left-wing extremists.

He believes it is “very likely” that Klette “received support from the left-wing extremist spectrum” during her more than 30 years on the run, said the chairman of the Association of German Criminal Investigators, Dirk Peglow, to the

editorial network Germany

on Thursday.

Without support, Klette “probably would have been arrested sooner,” Peglow speculated.

This also applies to the former RAF members Burkhard Garweg and Ernst-Volker Staub, who are still being sought by the authorities.

From the BDK boss's point of view, logistical support for the three former RAF members is likely.

This could have been in the form of vehicles, weapons, apartments and even money, explained Peglow.

“That needs to be clarified.” The BDK boss viewed the fact that the law enforcement authorities “did not let up” as a “success” and a “good sign”.

Third person arrested - identity is being checked

Update 2:25 p.m.:

As the

Hannoversche Allgemeine Zeitung

reports, investigators from the Lower Saxony State Criminal Police Office (LKA) have now arrested a third person in Berlin.

The identity is currently being checked to determine whether it is Burkhard Garweg or Ernst-Volker Staub.

Second arrested person released again: “It is not one of the two fugitive criminals”

Update 10:04 a.m.:

The other person arrested in Berlin is not one of the two wanted former RAF terrorists Burkhard Garweg or Ernst-Volker Staub.

The man was released from police action, as the Lower Saxony State Criminal Police Office announced on Wednesday in Hanover.

“There is no doubt that this is not one of the two criminals who are still on the run,” said the LKA.

Recently, a man was taken off a train at Wuppertal Central Station and arrested because an eyewitness mistook him for dust.

However, this suspicion was not confirmed.

The search for the two criminals who are still on the run is ongoing.

RAF terrorist Daniela Klette's house searched

Update from February 28th, 6:32 a.m.:

The search for former RAF members Ernst-Volker Staub and Burkhard Garweg continues.

“We will continue to search,” said the President of the Lower Saxony State Criminal Police Office (LKA), Friedo de Vries.

After the arrest of former RAF terrorist Daniela Klette, another person was arrested in Berlin.

However, the man's identity is still unclear.

Information on this is expected on Wednesday.

Klette was caught in Berlin on Monday evening.

She offered no resistance, de Vries explained.

The 65-year-old is in custody for several robberies.

She is said to have previously lived in the capital under a false identity.

During the search, the police seized, among other things, magazines from a weapon and cartridges.

As a

dpa

reporter reported, investigators were still in her apartment on Tuesday evening and were carrying bags out of the house.

After the arrest of the former RAF terrorist Daniela Klette: another person arrested

First report from February 27th:

Berlin - Shortly after the arrest of the former RAF terrorist Daniela Klette, the police were possibly able to arrest another former member of the group.

It is a man in the “desired age group,” said the President of the Lower Saxony State Criminal Police Office, Friedo de Vries, on Tuesday (February 27) at a press conference in Hanover.

However, the man's identity has not yet been clarified.

You can't be sure whether your identification documents are real.

The man's identification should be completed within the next few hours.

The Verden public prosecutor's office and the State Criminal Police Office have been searching for the former RAF terrorists Burkhard Garweg (55) and Ernst-Volker Staub (69) for around 30 years.

They are assigned to the so-called third RAF generation.

According to De Vries, a little patience is still needed and referred to a case that recently occurred in Wuppertal.

There, a man was falsely arrested on a regional train on suspicion of being Staub.

Burdock, who has been in hiding for over 30 years, was arrested on Monday (February 26) and was taken into custody on Tuesday.

The investigators accuse her of attempted murder and other acts in connection with robberies that she is said to have committed together with Staub and Garweg.
