The Schongau Training Fair (SAM) is taking place for the fifth time this year.

82 companies want to present themselves in the Lech sports hall.

Schongau – “More companies than ever before,” announces Alexander Berndt from Ostenrieder Design & Marketing for this year’s Schongau training fair (SAM) on March 20th.

All 82 parking spaces are occupied.

For comparison: last year 68 companies were represented at the trade fair.

The fact that more companies now have space is also due to the decision to no longer offer double stands, explains organizer Berndt.

14 companies would celebrate their premiere at SAM.

The companies Beluk (switchgear construction), the Pfaffenwinkel practice clinic and Andergassen (horticulture and landscaping) are represented for the first time, says Berndt.

The fact that so many companies are taking part in the training fair also shows “how great the pressure is outside,” says Roland Streim, managing director of the Oberland district craft association.

It has long been the case that companies are applying to young talent.

The shortage of skilled workers is due, on the one hand, to demographic change.

The baby boomer generation would be retiring in the coming years - “we won't be compensated for that at all,” said Streim.

Get young people interested in training together

And the value of the training also plays a role.

In order to strengthen this, it is extremely important to keep young people well informed.

A high-quality training fair, which the district office also supports, and where even the smallest companies can present themselves in order to show the diversity in the region, is very important.

Only together can we keep young people in the area and get them excited about training.

Andreas Korn, IHK branch manager in Weilheim, also emphasizes the importance of the trade fair for companies in the district.

It is an important instrument for arousing interest in training in general.

The number of school leavers is declining.

“160 training positions are still unfilled,” says Korn.

The trend that there are more training positions than people looking for training has been observed for years, explains Kathrin Grabmaier, press spokeswoman for the employment agency.

And “the scissors are widening”.

But it is not only the companies that face challenges, but also those seeking training, as Grabmaier emphasized.

The breadth of options and ever-new job profiles would actually make it difficult to have an overview and make a decision.

Career guidance is offered in schools, but that alone is not enough.

Companies and those seeking training will immediately notice whether it is a good fit

The trade fair brings companies and young people together.

In a direct meeting, both sides would get a good impression of each other.

“You notice right away: it fits or it doesn’t,” says Grabmaier.

And if the former were the case, perhaps grades would no longer play the most important role.

The fact that many companies are currently taking trainees to the trade fair, who can talk to the searchers on an equal footing, is an advantage, says District Administrator Andrea Jochner-Weiß.

This way you can find out more information in a very relaxed manner.

And because parents play an important role in career orientation, they are also cordially invited to visit the SAM to get an overview of the opportunities in the region, emphasizes Jochner-Weiß.

Trade fair visitors can not only obtain information directly from all the companies that interest them.

There will also be lectures, explains Berndt.

Stamps can be collected both for taking part in a lecture and for a consultation at a stand.

Four pieces are the requirement to take part in a competition.

The main prize is an I-Pad.
