The Peasants' War and reformer Müntzer will be remembered at several locations in 2025.

500 years later, a state exhibition is planned that is made up of various pieces of the puzzle.

Eisleben - Remembering the past can also bring good things for the future in the eyes of Prime Minister Reiner Haseloff.

“The state exhibition is evidence of how culture can contribute to understanding social developments and working together on a fairer future,” said the CDU politician on Friday in Eisleben when presenting the building blocks for the state exhibition planned for 2025.

This deals with the end of the German Peasants' War and the anniversary of the death of reformer Thomas Müntzer (1489-1525) 500 years ago.

The Mansfeld-Südharz region, in which Eisleben is also located, is one of the centers of the unrest in 1525, which affected large parts of the Holy Roman Empire at the time.

“The Peasants’ War marked a significant turning point in German history, in which farmers fought for their rights and a fairer society,” said Haseloff.

Important history has been written in the district, which for Haseloff also allows a reference to the now.

“If you don't get the issue with the farmers sorted out, you'll never find peace.

We saw that back then, we will see that today,” said the CDU politician.

According to the State Chancellery, the federal and state governments are making around six million euros available for the implementation of the state exhibition.

The decentralized exhibition entitled “Gerechtigkeyt 1525” is planned at several locations.

The Luther Memorial Foundation, the Art Foundation, the Cultural Foundation and the Werkleitz Society are involved.

The Peasants' War should also be remembered in other federal states.

For the anniversary year, the Moritzburg Art Museum in Halle is currently designing two projects for the state exhibition.

An exhibition that will be open from the end of November will deal with the development of art in the central German region on the eve of the Reformation and the Peasants' War at the beginning of the 16th century.

A second takes a look at Müntzer's places of work.

Its opening is planned for the end of May 2025.

A third part of the state exhibition will be in Allstedt.

Müntzer gave his famous princely sermon there in 1524.

In the commemorative year, the art foundation wants to build a public art course in May 2025 consisting of sculptural works made of wood, metal and ceramics.

The cultural foundation has also set itself the goal of making parts of Allstedt Castle, which is in dire need of renovation, accessible to visitors by 2025 and of presenting Müntzer's biography there.

In Stolberg, the birthplace of the reformer, the foundation also wants to reflect on the commemorative years with contemporary positions in the “Alte Münze” museum.

A hands-on exhibition entitled “1525!

Uprising for Gerechtigkeyt” marks the start of the nationwide commemoration of the Peasants’ War and Müntzer. It is also intended to address current questions about justice, individual freedom and participation.

The district administrator of Mansfeld-Südharz, André Schröder, was proud of the exhibition in his region.

“We know that we have made a contribution to Central European history,” said the CDU politician.

The district now wants to show this story in order to draw positive attention to itself.

“It’s worth coming to the region and bringing people here,” said Culture Minister Rainer Robra (CDU).
