As a native of Upper Palatinate, Barbara Meier should be familiar with the Bavarian dialect.
But for a role she had to help a little.
Munich – Barbara Meier (37) has been a sought-after model since her victory in the second season of “Germany's Next Top Model” (GNTM).
Since her triumph, she has walked the catwalk for well-known designers and regularly graces fashion magazines.
She has also been working as an actress since 2010.
For her latest role, she had to polish up her Bavarian a bit.
Parents practiced Bavarian with Barbara Meier
In 2007, Meier beat 16,000 competitors on GNTM, and three years later, after a casting, she unexpectedly received a role in the ProSieben mystery thriller “Screams of the Forgotten”.
To date, the model had no experience as an actress.
It was supposed to be Barbara Meiser's springboard to an acting career.
After an agency signed her, she even trained at the New York Film Academy.
The 37-year-old now regularly appears in front of the camera in German productions.

Her latest project is particularly close to her heart.
In “Dahoam is Dahoam” Meier plays the manager of a brewery in three episodes.
She even had to practice dialect for her role as Anita Holzammer.
“I was asked in advance whether I would like to speak standard German.
But I didn't want that at all because I love the series so much because of its local color," said the Amberg native in an interview with

Barbara Meier had to polish up her native dialect for her role in “Dahoam is Dahoam”.
But the Upper Palatinate region of her homeland presented her with challenges.
Filming was harder than expected, “because I realized that I couldn’t actually speak it very well anymore.
Especially since I didn't have an extreme dialect as a child anyway, because standard German was always spoken at school.
“I then quickly took lessons from my parents,” Meier continued.
She practiced a lot with her parents, but that also presented challenges.
“We discovered that even my parents’ dialects are slightly different because they don’t come from the same region in Upper Palatinate.
We then tried to find a middle ground.”
