There has been no parish council in Buch am Buchrain for two years.

And yet the Catholics there organize themselves without this permanent body.

Buch am Buchrain – The parish of Buch am Buchrain made some investments last year.

Nevertheless, the reserves were increased by 4,500 euros, as was learned at the parish meeting.

The event, which was again combined with the Lenten soup meal, also made it clear that the parish council (PGR), which has no longer existed since 2022, is simply missing.

As is well known, Buch was the only municipality in the district where there were no candidates for the PGR two years ago.

All incumbent members resigned and the election could not take place (we reported).

But there are still people in town who are committed to the church and parish even without official volunteer work.

Not only does the Catholic women's community fill some of the gaps, but also five to six private individuals who act as a kind of voluntary committee when necessary, says church curator Wolfgang Hipper, who is always present at the regular round tables.

The parish meeting is one of the events that used to be organized by the parish council.

The fact that the event was able to take place at all this year is thanks to the efforts of the volunteers, Hipper tells our newspaper.

Nevertheless: “The parish council is already missing.” The missing committee at the tables also caused a lot of discussion at the Lenten soup meal.

Two locals expressed their doubts as to whether a parish council would ever be formed again after the break.

It could also be exciting to see how the church administration election will go in November.

Unlike the parish festival, which has not existed since 2022, the parish meeting could take place again.

Five citizens had prepared goulash, pancake and potato soups, which were eaten in the community hall.

Confirmants assisted with setup and dismantling as well as with service.

The more than 40 people present expressed their gratitude with donations amounting to around 400 euros.

“That’s great and significantly more than last year,” says Hipper happily.

The proceeds benefit local senior citizen work.

In his report, the church curator provided information about investments and projects in 2023. An important source of income is the subsidy from the Ordinariate (21,000 euros), which is used for renovations or energy costs.

However, the latter increased significantly from 2022 (5,500 euros) to 2023 (13,500 euros).

In total, more than 900 Catholics live in Buch.

213 of them gave more than they were required to collect church money, which resulted in a grant of 1,000 euros.

At the suggestion of Pastor Christoph Stürzer, the church consecration donation was introduced - according to Hipper, the 1,620 euros remain entirely in the parish.

40 percent of the Caritas donation (1,760 euros) remains in the town.

Hipper: “I would like to thank you very much for the generous donations.”

Without subsidies, the parish has to cover the maintenance of the cemetery.

The fee income of 7,310 euros is saved directly because the cemetery wall is being repaired.

“This will be a very expensive matter,” fears the church caretaker.

He hopes that the cost estimate and building permit can be addressed this year.

“So far we have not been able to find a construction company for this measure, but the situation in the construction industry has improved somewhat.”

The most expensive measure was continuing the paving in the new cemetery (€12,400).

Other expenses included the granite gravel installation on the parish garden driveway (€2,600), tree care in the parish garden and cemetery (€2,900), new flooring in the parish hall (€6,100) and repairing storm damage to the church roof (a good €300).

There was also a woodworm infestation in their attic, which, according to Hipper, led to the replacement of boards (€980).

Since last year, the humidity in the church has also had to be monitored to protect the wooden figures and altars.

Two data loggers (€330) were purchased for this purpose.

“It is constantly monitored and recorded, but so far no special measures have been necessary,” said the church custodian.

The parish invested a total of almost 3,500 euros to repair the old church tower clock, “but I think it was worth it to preserve the clock.”

The Kfd also provided financial support here.

With a view to a sick cleaner, Hipper finally asked all grave owners from the old cemetery to take care of the grave areas themselves and keep them free of weeds.

“There’s no way one person can handle that.”
