Highlights: Thuringian students want to undermine the AfD in elections - with a simple trick. The slogan “92 days’ is intended primarily to appeal to students who have moved to Weimar to study, according to a statement from the leading Bauhaus University Weimar. Many could theoretically take part in the elections, but were not registered at their place of study. Changing registration could also be financially worthwhile for the students. For example, in Ilmenau this is 80 euros per year or in Schmalkalden 50 euros per semester.

There are important elections coming up in Thuringia this year.

In order to get students to the ballot box, an initiative has come up with a special trick.

Thuringia/Weimar – The super election year 2024 is in full swing.

In Thuringia, too, citizens are called upon to go to the polls three times: for the local elections from May 26th, for the European elections from June 6th to 9th and for the state elections on September 1st in Thuringia.

The universities in the Free State are now also mobilizing to ensure the highest possible voter turnout.

An initiative has launched a special campaign for this purpose.

Possibly also to take the wind out of the AfD's sails.

Campaign wants to convince students to report in Thuringia

The slogan “92 days” is intended primarily to appeal to students who have moved to Weimar to study, according to a statement from the leading Bauhaus University Weimar.

Many could theoretically take part in the elections, but were not registered at their place of study.

“We have recognized this untapped vocal potential and would like to address it specifically,” explains co-initiator and art professor Burkhart von Scheven in the statement.

92 days - about three months - is how long before an election a person must be registered to be able to vote.

The first deadline, namely that for the local elections in Weimar on May 26th, has already passed.

The next deadline for registration in Thuringia is March 6th.

The initiative also promotes financial incentives for re-registration in Thuringia

But the campaign does not only promote the possibility of exercising the right to vote in Thuringia.

Changing registration could also be financially worthwhile for the students who have moved here.

Anyone who states the Thuringian place of study as their main residence will receive a so-called training bonus.

For example, in Ilmenau this is 80 euros per year or in Schmalkalden 50 euros per semester.
