Too much effort: City cycling is canceled due to a lack of staff

2024-03-01T08:54:35.498Z

Highlights: Too much effort: City cycling is canceled due to a lack of staff. Last year there were 812 participants in Eichenau who formed 20 teams. In total they had covered 80,313 kilometers. This saved around 13 tons of CO2. With this result, the district secured fourth place behind Puchheim, Gröbenzell and Alling. The Starzelbachschule proved to be the most active group, cycling around 14,500 kilometers with nine classes. The community's sports officer says they won't allow themselves to be burdened with this task because they are sufficiently busy organizing the sports activities.

Eichenau actually always pedaled diligently when cycling around the city.

This year this will not be possible as before: there is a lack of appropriate staff in the town hall.

According to the mayor, the effort is not insignificant.

Eichenau – The Fürstenfeldbruck district has been taking part in city cycling for many years.

A number of eager municipalities have joined this, including Eichenau.

But the community of Starzelbach will not be represented this time.

Mayor Peter Münster (independent) announced this at the most recent meeting of the local council under the agenda item Miscellaneous: “For personnel reasons.”

Social interaction

Rike Schiele (Greens) regretted this: “That’s a real shame.

City cycling was one of the little things that promote social interaction.” Münster reacted just as regretfully.

But they couldn't find anyone in the administration who would take care of it adequately and appropriately.

“You can’t shake that off your back so easily,” explained the mayor.

It is more complicated to organize than it usually looks.

Great expense

According to Münster, just the time required to register the community for city cycling and the participating teams takes a lot of time - especially if late registrations still have to be processed.

That's why he was asked by the employees of the responsible environmental agency not to take part.

“It is also not a mandatory task for the community,” said Münster.

However, groups could still register via the district.

Sufficiently busy

Even the Eichenauer SV, as a club with a large number of members, will not step into the breach despite the existing cycling department.

In his capacity as chairman of the ESV, Elmar Ströhmer (FW) defended himself extremely violently.

“We definitely won’t organize that,” says the community’s sports officer.

They won't allow themselves to be burdened with this task because they are sufficiently busy organizing the sports activities.
