The parking situation in Peitingen's town center repeatedly causes discussions.

The local council has now decided to change the parking area on the former Kreuzerhaus property.

In the future, it will primarily serve as a parking lot for city hall employees.

Peiting - It's been a while since the old Kreuzerhaus on the corner of Obere Straße and Schongauer Straße in the center of Peiting was demolished.

That was in 2019, but the community's plans to build a residential and commercial building there were quickly abandoned.

Instead, the open space has been used as a public parking lot for several years to address the high parking pressure in the town center.

On weekdays, parking time is limited to two hours from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m.

While anyone is currently allowed to park their car there, that will soon change.

On Tuesday, the Peitingen local council decided, at the suggestion of the administration, that the property should in future serve primarily as a parking lot for employees of the town hall.

This regulation should apply Monday to Thursday from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Friday from 7 a.m. to 12 p.m.

Outside these times, anyone can use it – without any further parking time restrictions.

Relief for parking space at the girls' school

The background to the administrative proposal is the changed parking situation due to the move of the Peitinger nursing service to Bachstrasse.

Until then, he had primarily parked his cars on the Kreuzerhaus property.

Since this is no longer the case, the area is only used sparingly, it was said at the meeting.

But this has made the situation worse elsewhere.

It was observed in the town hall that in the morning, or at the latest during the morning, there was hardly a free space left in the parking lot of the girls' school.

One reason is that the nursing service has been parking its vehicles there since the move, which is of course entirely legal.

Market employees would also use the parking lot, along with teachers and visitors to the town center.

With the reallocation of the Kreuzerhaus property to an employee parking lot, the parking situation in the center should be smoothed out again.

According to the administration, around twelve employees who regularly drive to their place of work in the town hall would be affected by the new regulation.

Mayor Peter Ostenrieder spoke of a “good solution” and the employees were positive about the proposal.

Solution found for nursing service

The community has also met with the nursing service in the meantime.

So that he no longer has to use valuable public parking spaces with his cars, a previously "dead area" at the girls' school, which was originally intended as a bicycle parking space, has been designated as a parking space, says Ostenrieder when asked.

The company pays a small rent for this, and “that’s a good solution for everyone.”

The local councilors also saw it that way.

They voted unanimously for the change.

However, Tobias Eding (SPD) warned that one should not lose sight of a possible sale of the Kreuzerhaus property.

“If someone comes who is interested, we should remain flexible.” The town hall boss assured this.

However, he did not want to raise high hopes that something would happen soon in this regard.

“Developing the property is not easy because of its size.”
