An alleged new video in the case of the missing Rebecca Reusch is causing a stir.
But the public prosecutor already knows the recordings.
Munich – The recent report about an alleged new video in connection with the case of the missing Rebecca Reusch has caused a stir in recent weeks.
However, the recordings were not new to everyone, especially not to the prosecutor's office.
Bild
had already passed the video on to the police in autumn 2023 and timed its reporting to coincide with the fifth anniversary of the disappearance of the then 15-year-old
.
It has now become known that the public prosecutor's office had been informed about the recordings for some time.
New video in the case of missing Rebecca Reusch?
The public prosecutor's office has known about the recordings for years
“We know the video, we have evaluated it and there are no new findings from it,” the Berlin public prosecutor’s office told the
dpa
news agency on February 18.
Spokesman Sebastian Büchner now specified to
Übermedien
that the police have had the recordings “since February/March 2019”.
A video that showed the raspberry-red Renault Twingo attracted a lot of attention: However, the investigation into Rebecca Reusch's case is not getting anywhere.

The video itself is also unusable for the proceedings because the time stamp in the recording is incorrect and the significance is “at least limited,” as Büchner puts it.
A raspberry-red Twingo can be seen, similar to the vehicle that Rebecca Reusch's brother-in-law owns.
However, it is unclear who is driving the vehicle and whether it is actually the car of the brother-in-law, who is listed as the main suspect.
He is presumed innocent.
Police made it clear months ago: Car video does not provide any new information in the Rebecca case
A lot of fuss about old pictures.
When asked by the media portal,
Bild
replied : “The video is new to the public.” According to the report, the
Bild
journalists came across the recording via a Facebook group.
After the handover in the fall, the authorities did not initially inform them that the police were several years ahead of them with regard to the video.
Just the information that the supposedly brand new video does not provide any new insights.
For everyone hoping for a solution to the missing person case, the fuss surrounding the video is ultimately a disappointment.
Nevertheless, criminal scientist Christian Matzdorf is convinced that the Rebecca Reusch case will be solved sooner or later.
“We have already seen spectacular cases in which a whole cascade was set in motion by new impulses,” he says to
IPPEN.MEDIA
.
Only one new witness statement could “trigger a domino effect.”
However, it would have to be new.
