Dinkelsbühl - A serious traffic accident occurred on Tuesday evening, February 27th on federal highway 25 near Lehengutingen.

Two cars collided head-on shortly after 5:30 p.m., leaving both drivers seriously injured.

That is what the police said.

“According to the current status of the investigation and the evaluation of the evidence, a 51-year-old Mercedes driver was heading towards Dinkelsbühl,” said the police.

For reasons that are still unclear, it drifted further and further to the left over a longer distance.

An oncoming 73-year-old man, who was driving a VW, noticed the situation and tried to swerve to the left.

Nevertheless, a violent collision occurred.

The woman's Mercedes ended up on its roof in the ditch, while the VW remained on the road.

The 73-year-old was trapped in his car and had to be freed by the fire department using heavy equipment. After initial medical care, the two injured people were transported to various hospitals, with a rescue helicopter also being used.

None of those involved in the accident are in mortal danger.

The total damage is estimated at around 60,000 euros.

Traffic was diverted by fire departments for more than three hours.

In addition to the fire department from Dinkelsbühl, emergency services from Schopfloch and Lehengutingen were also on site; a total of 50 firefighters were on duty.
