The war in Ukraine is also spreading to the African continent.
Wagner mercenaries and Ukrainian special forces are fighting in Sudan.
Khartoum – The Ukraine war is not only raging in Eastern Europe.
Fighting between Russian and Ukrainian troops is also taking place on the African continent.
The notorious Wagner mercenaries in particular are on the move here to enforce Russian interests in northern Africa.
The Ukrainian special forces are supposed to thwart their plans.
Andriy Yusov, a spokesman for Ukraine's HUR military intelligence service, confirmed to
Politico
that Ukrainian special forces are also active abroad.
“Ukrainian intelligence must be present wherever it is necessary to destroy the enemy who is waging an all-out war against Ukraine.
We are present wherever it is possible to weaken Russia’s interests.”
Video recordings: Ukrainian forces interrogate Wagner mercenaries in Sudan
For confidentiality reasons, the spokesman did not want to answer whether they also specifically operate in Sudan.
A
Kyiv Post
video published in early February shows three prisoners being interrogated by a Ukrainian soldier.
Two of the prisoners are from the Sudanese military, with one of the prisoners speaking Russian, as can be heard in the video.
During the interrogation, the Russian-born man reveals that he is a member of the Wagner group.
The video has not yet been independently verified for authenticity, but its authenticity is not in doubt.

Ukrainian special forces are supposed to curb Russian influence in Sudan
In Sudan, the Wagner mercenaries appear to be on the side of the paramilitary “Rapid Support Forces” (RSF) group, which repeatedly competes in skirmishes with the Sudanese army.
The country's army, on the other hand, is supported by Ukrainian soldiers in order to curb Russian influence in the country.
The video published by the
Kyiv
Post
seems to confirm the presence of the Wagner mercenaries and also the Ukrainian special forces.
Civil war between rival forces has been raging in Sudan since April.
According to reports from the
Tagesschau
, the two groups initially joined forces and the local government was deposed in a coup.
After internal power struggles, however, the two factions quarreled over leadership until the tensions erupted in an armed conflict.

During the interrogation, the Wagner mercenary said there were around a hundred fighters in Sudan to support the paramilitary group there.
Russian leader Vladimir Putin has long been interested in expanding Russian influence in Africa.
The Wagner mercenaries were his “go-to” fighting force, only being indirectly active in African countries.
Russian Afrika Korps as Wagner's replacement reported directly to the Ministry of Defense
Since the death of the former Wagner boss Yevgeny Prigozhin and the resulting restructuring of the mercenary group, a separate Afrika Korps has been formed.
This part of the Russian armed forces is specifically responsible for the African continent.
The Afrika Korps no longer operates unofficially in Africa, but reports directly to the Russian Ministry of Defense.
Yusov further explains that “Russia’s terrorist network” is spreading in Africa and supporting illegal and local terrorists there.
He assured that “everything Ukraine does is done within the framework of international law and in cooperation with local governments and international partners.”
The Ukrainians are counting on hitting Putin where it hurts - even abroad.
