A large part of the international community has condemned and asked for answers this Friday to Thursday's aggression in Gaza in which more than a hundred people died while trying to get food in a convoy in Gaza City (north).

Israel, which admitted that the soldiers fired into the crowd, maintains that most people died from suffocation or being run over, while the Palestinian authorities have reported that it was due to the military's shots.

The Secretary General of the UN, António Guterres, has called for an “independent investigation” into the massacre, as has also been done by the German Government, the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, or the French President, Emmanuel Macron, who has demanded that efforts be redoubled for a truce that allows the delivery of aid to the enclave.

The EU High Representative for Foreign Policy, Josep Borrell, stated: “These deaths are totally unacceptable.

“Depriving people of food aid constitutes a serious violation of international humanitarian law.”

The president of the United States, Joe Biden, limited himself yesterday to saying that his government was reviewing what happened.

Germany demands that Israel clarify the aggression against civilians that caused more than 100 deaths in Gaza and calls for a humanitarian pause

This Friday, Germany demanded that Israel clarify without delay and completely the attack against civilians in Gaza when they were trying to access food, and has urged a humanitarian ceasefire for the release of Israeli hostages in the hands of Hamas and thus be able to distribute safely more assistance.

“Citizens wanted to get humanitarian supplies for themselves and their families and were met with death.

The information from Gaza shocks me.

The Israeli army must fully explain how mass panic and shootings could have occurred,” German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock wrote on the social network X.

“A humanitarian ceasefire is finally necessary so that the hostages held by Hamas can finally be released and so that no more people die in Gaza.

And [so that] the aid can be distributed safely,” indicated the politician, from the Greens party.

In Gaza, citizens “are closer to dying than to living,” he said, and argued that it is necessary for more humanitarian aid to reach Gazans immediately.

A Foreign Affairs spokesperson, Kathrin Deschauer, clarified in the German executive's regular press conference that Germany is already in contact with the Government of Israel and has clearly conveyed that Berlin expects a "very rapid investigation of the facts."

“The protection of civilians, especially in this tragic situation, must be an absolute priority,” she emphasized.

According to the Ministry of Health of the Gaza Strip, more than one hundred people were killed and at least 760 were injured in the Israeli attack, while the Israeli army claims that it fired on a crowd that posed "a threat" during the distribution of food and maintains that the majority of people died from asphyxiation in a human avalanche or were run over by drivers.

Brussels will disburse 50 of the 82 million annual aid to the UN Agency for Palestinian Refugees

The European Commission will disburse next week 50 of the 82 million euros planned for this year for the UN Agency for Palestinian Refugees (UNRWA, in its acronym in English).

The rest of the money, Brussels has specified in a statement, will be released when the international organization implements the agreements closed with the EU to clarify the accusations of Israel, which affirms that a dozen of its employees participated in the Hamas terrorist attack of September 7. October, a statement that has led UNRWA to lose a substantial part of its international donors.

“The Commission has assessed its decision to fund UNRWA in light of the very serious allegations made on 24 January, implicating several members of URNWA staff in the atrocious attack on 7 October,” the European Executive explained. in a statement, in which he also specified that in this decision "he took into account the measures taken by the UN and the commitments that the Commission required from UNRWA."

On January 29, the European Commission announced that, before releasing new money to the UN Agency, it expected UNRWA to agree, among other things, to an audit by independent experts appointed by the EU.

He also requested a reinforcement of the Agency's internal investigation department.

For Brussels, UNRWA and the UN are taking enough clarifying steps to release this first batch of funds that the humanitarian organization so urgently requires.

The EU is one of the largest donors of humanitarian and development aid to Palestinians in Gaza.

In fact, this Friday he announced that, in addition to the allocation from the budget for UNRWA, he has decided to allocate another additional 68 million euros to support aid to Palestinians carried out by organizations such as the Red Cross and Red Crescent.

Likewise, he has announced that the total funds allocated in 2024 for humanitarian aid to the Palestinians will reach 125 million euros, of which the first 16 million will be committed this Friday in contracts to send food, medicine and other products to the Strip, as well as to provide educational aid and psychosocial support to Gazan civilians.

In this way, the total EU aid planned for 2024 will amount to 275 million euros, a community spokesperson specified.

“We support the Palestinians in Gaza and other parts of the region,” said the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, when announcing the additional aid.

“Innocent Palestinians should not pay the price for the crimes of the Hamas terrorist group.

"They face terrible conditions that put their lives at risk due to lack of access to sufficient food and other basic needs," he added, while calling on social networks for an "investigation" into what happened the day before, when more than A hundred Gazans died while waiting to receive food in an incident that Hamas blames the Israeli army.

The incident has also been denounced by the president of the European Council, Charles Michel, who has declared himself “shocked and disgusted by the murder of innocent civilians in Gaza while they were desperately attending to the arrival of humanitarian aid,” he said in X. Likewise , the head of European diplomacy, Josep Borrell, has condemned the “totally unacceptable” “carnage” of civilians and has demanded that “unhindered access of humanitarian aid” to Gaza be guaranteed.

Von der Leyen and Michel call for an investigation into the aggression in Gaza with more than 100 dead during a food distribution

The presidents of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, and the European Council, Charles Michel, expressed this Friday dismay and disgust at the aggression against civilians in Gaza when they were trying to receive humanitarian aid, and have called for an investigation to be carried out. independent of what happened.

“International law does not allow double standards.

An independent investigation must be launched immediately and those responsible must be held accountable,” he said.

Furthermore, he has considered that it is “urgently necessary to have a ceasefire that allows humanitarian aid provided by properly funded specialized agencies such as UNRWA (the UN Agency for Palestinian Refugees) to reach the civilian population.”

The Gaza Ministry of Health raises the death toll in the Strip to more than 30,200 since October 7

The Gaza Ministry of Health, controlled by Hamas, has raised this Friday to 30,228 deaths - most of them children and women - the number of fatalities in the Strip since the Israeli offensive began on October 7, in response to the attack. terrorist attack against Israeli territory perpetrated that day by the Islamist militia Hamas, in which more than 1,100 people died, in addition to about 250 who were kidnapped and forcibly taken to the Palestinian enclave.

In the last 24 hours alone, 193 Palestinians have lost their lives in the Mediterranean enclave and 920 have been injured, according to the ministry statement.

The death toll refers to the victims who have arrived at area hospitals in the last few hours, but authorities estimate that there are many people under the rubble.

In fact, there are between 7,000 and 8,000 Palestinians trapped in the ruins of buildings demolished by the Israeli army's attacks.

According to Hamas, which has

de facto

controlled Gaza since 2007 and is considered a terrorist organization by the EU and the US, 71,377 people have been injured in this Palestinian territory since October 7.

Although the figures are from the Gaza Ministry of Health - this organization has published them in a statement collected by Reuters - the UN has validated the death toll published daily by the ministry.

The more than 30,200 deaths represent 1.3% of the enclave's population.

The EU will delay part of an 82 million euro payment to UNRWA over Israel's accusations, according to Reuters

The European Commission will now give the United Nations Palestine Refugee Agency (UNRWA) only a part of the planned €82 million payment due to concerns raised by Israeli accusations that 12 employees of The agency were involved in the October 7 attack, sources familiar with the matter have explained to the Reuters news agency.

According to these, the Commission, the executive arm of the EU, will make an official announcement around 12:30 (Spanish peninsular time) to explain that it has decided to make the payment in different installments, instead of in a single transfer.

At least 16 countries that contributed half of UNRWA's budget announced in late January that they were freezing their payments to the agency over Israel's accusations that 12 local agency employees were involved in the October 7 attack on Israeli territory. .

This United Nations agency, which has 30,000 workers in Gaza, the West Bank, East Jerusalem, Syria, Lebanon and Jordan, provides services to 5.9 million people and is the main humanitarian actor in Gaza.

When Israel denounced the involvement of the dozen UNRWA employees, the European Commission (the EU is the largest contributor) announced that it was going to wait for the result of the internal investigation opened by the United Nations and that it would carry out its own audit.

Israel has not presented its evidence publicly.

The suspension of funds to the agency has set off alarm bells at the UN, NGOs and several countries involved in the Palestinian cause.

He is the main humanitarian actor in an enclave “turned uninhabitable”, in the words of the UN emergency aid coordinator, Martin Griffiths.

Furthermore, the war has changed its daily activity: it coordinates the entry of humanitarian aid, its schools and medical centers have become shelters for a million people, it has lost about 150 employees due to Israeli bombings and only 3,000 from The 13,000 employees in Gaza continue to work.

Before the war, in 2022, UNRWA attended 3.5 million consultations in Gaza in its 22 medical centers and had some 290,000 students in its 278 schools, according to its latest annual report.

Of the 2.3 million Gazans, 1.5 million are registered as refugees.

War between Israel and Gaza

Israel's attacks leave chaos, hunger and multiply tragedies in Gaza

Antonio Pita

A handful of young people pose for the camera in Gaza with their faces covered.

They are all men, some with Kalashnikov rifles and others with wooden batons.

On their foreheads they wear a band with the words “Popular Protection Committees”, in the style of the militiamen, but much more rustic, a reflection of the lack of almost everything that the Palestinian Strip experiences.

One of them announces the birth of committees to support the Ministry of the Interior of the Hamas Government in Gaza in providing “security and stability” and “controlling excessive prices.”

They seek to transmit authority, but they achieve the opposite: about 10 twenty-somethings (at most) to regulate the situation generated by the Israeli decision to overthrow Hamas - the Islamist party-militia that has governed the enclave since 2007 and that launched the October 7 attack. ― and to use humanitarian aid as a weapon of war.

That is, malnutrition, half a million people on the brink of famine, assaults on food trucks and a black market that further divides Gazans between those who had money before the war and those who did not.

Israeli troops engage in hand-to-hand combat with Hamas militants in the heart of Khan Younis

Israeli troops continue fighting this Friday in the heart of Khan Younis, the main city in southern Gaza and considered by the Jewish State a Hamas stronghold.

The city, in fact, is the epicenter of fighting between Israeli soldiers and Islamist militiamen since the beginning of December.

While this hand-to-hand fight develops, Israel already has the action plan ready to expand its ground operations to Rafah, on the border with Egypt and the last city in the south of the enclave that the Israeli military has not yet entered.

“Troops from the Bislamach brigade of the Israel Defense Forces [IDF] entered the heart of Khan Yunis on Thursday,” a military statement reported.

The Bislamach brigade joins the activities of the 98th division in the Khan Younis area in efforts “to defeat the terrorist organization Hamas.”

Israeli troops have attacked in recent hours in Khan Younis the origin of several rocket launches yesterday towards Israeli territory, as well as other "terrorist targets in the area, including a Hamas terrorist tunnel and military complexes."

The troops also claim to have identified two militiamen who were carrying weapons, as well as a bag containing an explosive device, whom a combat helicopter "attacked and killed."

A plane has killed another cell of four fighters and another has destroyed a well that hid rocket launchers.

“IDF troops have carried out targeted attacks against a number of targets in western Khan Yunis.

During the activity, troops located a weapons warehouse containing numerous AK-47 rifles and ammunition,” the Army added.

Israeli troops also continue their military activity in the center of the Strip, where they assure that two Hamas battalions remain operational, and where in the last day they killed "several terrorists", including a cell that approached the troops, and that They killed them by shooting grenades and a barbed missile.

The official Wafa agency reported that at least four Gazans were killed in an Israeli attack on a family home in the Bureij refugee camp, in the center of the Strip.

More than 30,000 Gazans have died in the Strip since the war began, more than 70% of them were women and children, and more than 70,000 have been injured, in addition to the estimated 7,000 bodies trapped under the rubble, according to the count. of the Hamas-controlled Gaza Health Ministry.

Israel, which has 242 casualties in its ranks, claims that more than 12,000 dead in the enclave are militants, while Hamas reduces that figure by half.

China condemns the killing of more than 100 civilians in Gaza and calls for an end to fighting in the enclave

China has “strongly” condemned this Friday the recent attack by Israeli forces against Palestinian civilians waiting for humanitarian aid in the northern Gaza Strip, and has expressed its “shock” at the event.

The spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Mao Ning, has expressed her solidarity with those affected, estimated by the Gaza Ministry of Health at more than 100 dead and hundreds injured.

Mao has insisted on the parties involved in the conflict, “especially Israel,” to “stop the fighting.”

The spokesperson has called for the “protection of civilians” and the “guarantee of access to humanitarian aid” to avoid “an even greater disaster.”

Last week, China declared its “great disappointment” after the United States, a permanent member of the UN Security Council, again vetoed for the third time a resolution to call for “an immediate ceasefire” in the Gaza Strip.

In recent months, the Asian country has called for “all possible efforts to protect civilians and avoid an even worse humanitarian disaster.”

Beijing has also expressed its support for “the just cause of the Palestinian people to restore their legitimate rights and interests” and the two-state solution.

Its officials have held numerous meetings with representatives of Arab countries to reaffirm this position or try to advance peace talks.

Borrell says the killing of more than 100 civilians in Gaza is “a serious violation of international humanitarian law”

The EU High Representative for Foreign Policy, the Spanish Josep Borrell, has stated that he is “horrified” by the news of the massacre of civilians in Gaza when they were trying to receive food, a fact that constitutes “a serious violation of international humanitarian law.” .

“I am horrified by the news of another massacre among civilians in Gaza desperate for humanitarian aid.

These deaths are totally unacceptable.

"Depriving people of food aid constitutes a serious violation of international humanitarian law," Borrell wrote on the social network X. The head of community diplomacy added that "unhindered humanitarian access in Gaza must be guaranteed."

According to the Strip's Health Ministry, more than 100 people died on Thursday and at least 760 were injured in the Israeli attack, while the Israeli army said it fired on a crowd that posed "a threat" during the food distribution.

The attack, which led to an emergency closed-door meeting of the UN Security Council, occurred yesterday during a food distribution in northern Gaza with shots from the Israeli army, which was followed by a human avalanche, according to the version from military sources of the Jewish State.

The blockade of humanitarian aid entering the Palestinian enclave is at the root of incidents of this type.

The population, without access to the most basic things to survive, has been fighting for weeks to get food and water.

The local authorities, controlled by Hamas, reported this Wednesday the first fatalities due to lack of food.

Macron expresses his “deep indignation” at the massacre of more than 100 civilians in Gaza and calls for a ceasefire

The entire civilian population must be protected.

A ceasefire must be implemented immediately to allow the distribution of humanitarian aid,” he added.

A few hours earlier, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs had already expressed itself on behalf of the French Government, through a message from its spokesperson, who considered the high number of victims to be “unjustifiable”, which according to the Gaza Ministry of Health amounted to more than 100 deaths. and hundreds of injured.

Guterres calls for an independent investigation into the aggression in Gaza with more than 100 dead

The Secretary General of the UN, António Guterres, has called for an “independent investigation” into the incident on Thursday in northern Gaza in which more than a hundred people died while trying to get humanitarian aid when a convoy arrived in the northern Gaza.

Israel, which later admitted and denied that the soldiers present in the area fired at the crowd, maintains that the majority died crushed and trampled by the mob, while the Palestinians denounce that it was due to the soldiers' shots.

During a regional summit in Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, in the Caribbean, Guterres declared himself “shocked” by the massacre and in a message on “They were injured while seeking help to save their lives.”

In the message he placed emphasis on the “desperation” of Gazan civilians, noting that “they need help, including the residents of the north [of Gaza] where the UN has not been able to distribute aid in more than a week.”

In another subsequent message, he declared himself “horrified by the tragic death toll in Gaza”, which on Thursday exceeded 30,000, with more than 70,000 injured.

Given this, he has reiterated his “call for a humanitarian ceasefire and the unconditional release of all hostages.”

The situation in the Strip, especially in the north, is desperate for hundreds of thousands of people.

Israeli restrictions and fighting mean that humanitarian aid is barely arriving and hunger has taken over the population, according to the UN and NGOs present in the area.

In recent days, there have been several assaults on trucks loaded with humanitarian aid, which is why some agencies have suspended deliveries to safeguard the safety of their staff.

The Palestinian ambassador to the UN: “The Security Council must say enough is enough”

The Gaza Health Ministry raises the death toll in the incident to 112 people

The Gaza Health Ministry, controlled by Hamas, has stated that 112 people died in the incident that occurred this morning in northern Gaza.

The organization affirms that there are more than 280 wounded by the Israeli army's shots among the hundreds of people who gathered to get food and humanitarian aid around some convoys.

Israel, which has admitted to shooting because its soldiers felt threatened, says that most of the deaths have been caused by the aid trucks themselves by running over Gazans.
