“A new disturbance is progressing inland from the South-West to the North-East with regular
rains
in its southern part”
, according to La Chaîne Météo*.
The feeling is gloomy and the
“wind moderate over a good part of the country”
.
The weather is very rough at the end of the afternoon, Saturday, in the South-East.
Temperatures are seasonal.
The disturbances of March 1st continue and progress further to the East with very choppy weather in the South-East at the end of the day.
“Expect heavy stormy rain late in the day towards the French Riviera
,” as well as “abundant snow
in the southern Alps above 1500 m.”
Five departments are placed on
“orange alert”
for the risk of snow
: Alpes-de-Haute-Provence, Hautes-Alpes, Ardèche, Haute-Loire and Lozère.
Two other departments are placed on
“orange alert”
at the risk of heavy rain and floods
: the Alpes-Maritimes and the Var.
The weather in your regions
In the
North-West
, from
Brittany
and the
Pays de la Loire
to
Normandy
, the early morning will see disrupted weather, then clearings return quickly with the west wind.
“A few more showers in the sky trailing behind in the afternoon.”
From
Center-Val de Loire
and Ile
-de-France
to
Hauts-de-France
, the atmosphere in the rain is gloomy.
The sky remains overcast all day.
On
the entire eastern facade
,
“the weather is calm with clearings and mild temperatures which rise with the south wind in the afternoon.”
From the
South-West
to the
Center-West
, the weather is unsettled all day, with strong winds and fairly heavy rain.
In
PACA-Corsica
, the start of the day promises to be pleasant and the sun generous.
The sky becomes cloudy in the afternoon from the West.
“Heavy stormy rain begins at the end of the day/evening on the Côte d'Azur”
and the Southern Alps are under heavy snowfall.
Corsica remains on the sidelines for the moment.
Further development
A strong disturbed episode is expected during the night from Saturday to Sunday with heavy rain in the far South-East (up to 100 mm expected for the Nice region) and heavy snowfall above 1000 m.
Risks of runoff and flooding are possible.
The southerly wind is strengthening on the Côte d'Azur with a strong risk of marine submersion, linked to the surge and strong waves.
In the Southern Alps from around 1200 meters, snow still falls heavily, including a risk of avalanche.
Sunday morning will mark the start of the most risky period, with cooling and a shift in the wind to the northwest sector.
The snow falls from 300 to 400 meters on the central massif,
“notably the Stéphanois and the north of the Rhône valley”
.
As temperatures drop, this heavy, sticky snow will gradually stick to the ground.
On the other hand, ground handling seems complicated on the plains, due to soggy soils and excessively high temperatures.
“The heavy rains continue in the Maritime Alps and the Var before evacuating in the afternoon towards Italy.”
