But rather than letting them go to the slaughterhouse, an animal protection association, Règne Animal, is working hard to find them a shelter: on the social network Facebook, a call for adopters has just been launched for nearly 200 kids only a few days old.

“It is the breeders of Ain who contacted us directly, they will keep them while we find them a new home,” indicates Carine Demaurey, founder of the association.

Only males are affected, the young females being kept to produce milk.

“But we know that they will go to the slaughterhouse at six years old, when their production decreases, that is also the reality of the dairy industry,” she denounces.

Since the call was made, his phone has not stopped ringing.

“But we have to sort through all the requests,” explains the volunteer, who sends a form to each potential adopter, with precise criteria to complete.

If these animals are given away free of charge, they have specific needs that their future owners must respect.

“They must have land of at least 1,400 m2, with a closed shelter and a fence at least 1.50 m high,” she insists.

Among the different stages planned for the moment: Lille (North), Caen (Calvados), Rouen (Seine-Maritime) but also Senlis (Oise) and Versailles (Yvelines) “We know that in the Oise, residents can have land large enough to accommodate two animals,” hopes Carine Demaurey, who is originally from the department.

Regarding Senlis and Versailles, the weekend selected is March 16 and 17.

“We are still looking for a location, but we will notify the owners about the practical details.
