“Reconciling digital transformation and ecological transition.
» This is the objective sought by the Paris-Saclay University Foundation and the operator Data4.
This Friday, on the occasion of the Paris-Saclay Summit-Choose Science which is being held in Palaiseau (Essonne), a “world first” will be unveiled: the creation of the “first circular organic data center in the world”.
It will materialize by a forest of algae cultivated on the roofs of the data centers gathered since 2006 on a campus in Marcoussis.
“Data centers are essential players in the digital transition, but they also consume energy to operate their servers,” recognizes Linda Lescuyer, Innovation Manager at Data4, operator of the Marcoussis campus and data centers in five European capitals.
The idea is to find a way to recover this energy, transformed into heat by the servers to return it to the territories.
