A virtual journey into the past and a walk along the river: In our museum series we visit the entrance to the Museum Wolfratshausen.

Wolfratshausen – 1000 years is a long time.

It can be summarized in six minutes - at least if you only want to give a very rough overview.

This is the goal in the entrance area of the museum.

On the stairs that lead to the first floor, several things catch the visitor's eye: The large, round disk on which the short version of the city's history is projected is in the middle of the room.

For example, if you press the right button, riders will fight for a castle above the roofs of the city.

A blue line snakes along a wall.

It traces the direction of flow of the Loisach.

In the middle of the line is a round disk with many dark dots: they symbolize the buildings in the city that grew up around the wild river.

“The Loisach had an important significance for the city’s development,” explains Annekatrin Schulz, the director of the museum.

Museum Wolfratshausen renewed: The opening was celebrated a year ago

The entrance to the completely renovated museum, which opened a year ago, is intended to provide a compact overview of the city.

And the river is part of it - the element runs through almost the entire museum.

“It was the lifeline of the city.” On the wall, visitors can see how the settlement grew around the river – and where the Loisach originally ran.

After a flood, the course of the river was changed to protect residential buildings.

Historic old town right on the river: the lifeline of Loisach in the center

It is no coincidence that the historic old town runs parallel to the water.

An interactive station in the museum shows at the push of a button which historical buildings were built in the city center.

There were once twelve breweries there.

When museum director Schulz presses a button, these buildings light up red.

Many houses were also built for rafting.

The model shows that at the time it was still in the Obermarkt or in the direction of Beuerberger Straße.

New life has long since reigned in most of the buildings - the view is based on the Loisachstadt in the 19th century.

The Floßlände also moved: from its location south of the old town to the north, towards Schlederleiten.

An entire themed room in the museum is dedicated to this craft.
