In the black and white photo, one of the most famous photos taken after the crash of March 3, 1974, Philippe Laprun appears in profile, holding a stretcher.

Aged 18 at the time, he now remembers the disaster perfectly and how he found himself at the scene of the tragedy with his 15-year-old brother.

“We lived just outside Senlis, towards Mont-l’Évêque, we saw ambulances pass in front of our house.

We heard on the radio that a DC-10 had crashed, we knew nothing about airplanes, we thought it was a small plane, with 10 people on board.

» Knowing the forest like the back of their hand with their years of scouting, the two brothers got on their bikes and soon arrived at the scene, where they understood that the disaster was serious.
