Christian Köck discussed the new town hall building, which moved Rottach-Egern so much up to the decision, in passing at the citizens' meeting.

He drew attention to the mega-projects on Seestrasse and municipal housing construction.

There was a lot of applause for a passionate closing statement.

Rottach-Egern

– There is already a lot of work going on in the rear area of the town hall property.

“But that has nothing to do with our new building,” explained Mayor Christian Köck (CSU) to the 150 listeners in the Seeforum.

First, the main power supply for the town will be replaced and a new transformer house will be built.

Köck recently got the town hall project, which had stalled due to the referendum, up and running again and brought the specialist planners together.

“We weren’t allowed to do anything the whole time,” he explained.

Some details still need to be discussed in the open space planning, for example regarding the location of the disabled parking spaces.

The building permit is still pending, and it is hoped that demolition and new construction can begin quickly.

Köck only briefly responded to town hall neighbor Eva Mengele's request for a citizens' meeting.

As reported, she suggests moving the new building two meters to the south.

On the one hand, to save their two maple trees, and on the other hand, because they believe this will help preserve the value of the property at the back.

Applications are dealt with by the local council

The citizens' assembly usually votes on whether the application should be discussed by the local council.

In this case this was unnecessary.

Köck quickly announced that the local council would publicly discuss the proposal at its next meeting on March 12th.

He left it open how he felt about the application.

He dismissed the second written request just as quickly.

It was submitted by Astrid Quittkat, who once again wants a speed limit in the town and new pedestrian crossings.

This will also be put on the agenda for the next council meeting.

Focus on municipal housing

Köck reported confidently and at great speed on the numerous projects of the past twelve months.

He proudly presented photos of the new community housing building Haslau 22, the new playground, the renovated soccer field at the Birkenmoos sports field and many other projects.

He reported why the local council had put the Haslau locals program on hold: The building prices had skyrocketed so much that they could no longer be financed by the actual target group: “We can't give the properties away.” The community is waiting the price development and, if necessary, switching to the construction of apartment buildings.

The creation of affordable living space remains a major task: “The free market has not regulated this for a long time.”

Large construction sites on Seestrasse

Seestrasse, “the heart of tourism,” as Köck says, is currently causing concern.

The former flagship Bachmair am See stands gutted.

It is unclear when construction will continue.

“The house is missing a lot,” reported Köck.

Retailers and restaurateurs missed hotel guests as customers.

Meanwhile, construction of the new luxury hotel Severin's is underway, but has fallen seriously behind schedule due to groundwater intrusion.

This means that neighboring businesses have to endure the noise pollution for a longer period of time.

“But it will be a chic hotel,” said Köck.

Thirdly, the Hotel Waltershof on Seestrasse is also to be built from scratch.

The start of construction is open here.

Köck can see a positive side to this.

“With three major construction sites, it’s quite good if they take place at staggered locations.”

Warning final word

It was only in the closing remarks that Köck made the upheavals surrounding the referendum an issue.

The defamations, the supervisory complaints.

He regrets how personal the disputes have sometimes become.

Neither the employees nor the local council deserved that.

His appeal: “Let us think about the future.” It is important that we can look each other in the eye again, that the place functions as a community.

Especially in these troubled times: “We have to take care of ourselves.”
