While certain sectors of commerce are going through an unprecedented crisis, the second-hand market is taking off.
“It is a mode of consumption which will take a significant part of consumption in general, we are only at the beginning”, thinks Gérald Barbier, first vice-president of the CCI (chamber of commerce and industry) Paris Île-de-France.
This phenomenon is also being studied very closely this year by the organization.
The most recent figures are indeed significant: in the region, the number of second-hand stores increased from 312 in 2021 to 437 in 2023, an increase of 40%.
Second-hand and consignment type stores are also on the rise: there are 347 today, or 49 more (+16.5%) than two years ago.
