Floods and storms have done a great job in the Herrschinger Seewinkel: both public bathing jetties have been destroyed and are now to be rebuilt in the shape of a double T.

But the money is missing.

Anyone who has always wanted to give their name to a footbridge now has the opportunity to do so.

Because the community of Herrsching lacks the money to repair its destroyed footbridges, it is launching an appeal for donations.

Herrsching

- First came the snow, then the flood and then the storm - all of Herrsching's public bathing jetties fell victim to the Ammersee floods in December.

The budget for the current year 2024 was already finalized at that time.

Like other communities, the community of Herrsching is under pressure to make savings.

No money was budgeted for repairing the footbridges.

After all, this is an estimated 250,000 euros.

The community is now taking its own approach to getting money into the coffers.

Mayor Christian Schiller launched a call for donations at the citizens' meeting on Thursday with an “exclusive offer”: “You could secure naming rights on the jetty.

What is that worth to you?”

Repairing one footbridge alone costs “a mere 100,000 euros,” said Schiller.

The community has three structures in Lake Ammersee that were destroyed in December.

Two are in Seewinkel and one at the old sports field.

The good news: “We can rebuild the footbridges within the same framework,” said Schiller.

It was feared that a lengthy building application process would have been necessary due to the strict requirements imposed by the Landsberg district office responsible for Lake Ammersee and the palaces and lakes administration.

Then new bathing jetties would probably not have been expected this season.

The mayor has now been signaled that the community footbridges will be exempt from this.

“This is not a given,” emphasized Schiller.

The destroyed footbridges in Wartaweil cannot easily be rebuilt.

The community already has a plan for the footbridges in Seewinkel.

The two jetties, which were aligned by the old sailing school so that as many boats as possible could dock, are now to be combined into one jetty, which is to be built in a double-T shape.

This makes the structure more resistant to high waves and storms and offers less attack surface.

In order to achieve this, the community footbridge at the old sports field should be rebuilt as it was, but 50 centimeters higher.

“It looks like we’ll get that approved,” said the mayor happily.

“Then we also need money.”

Time plays a big role so that the jetties can be used again in the summer.

That's why the community is taking an unusual approach and asking for donations.

The offer to secure a naming right is “no joke”.

“Müllersteg, Meiiersteg – combinations are also possible,” said Schiller, “we need money to be able to rebuild the jetties.” And anyone who wants naming rights can also put their deck chair on it at any time, he said jokingly.

Herrsching's TSV handball players had already announced a charity game for the benefit of the community before the call - an all-star game on April 20th at the end of this very successful season for them (we reported).

Maybe that was the initial spark for the call.

“We depend on your generous support.

Any amount will help restore this valuable community facility,” is what the flyer that is now available in the community says.

If you would like to donate, you can do so on the account of the Kreissparkasse München Starnberg Ebersberg IBAN DE10 7025 0150 0430 3609 33. Purpose: “Donation Stegeneubau 2024”.
