It's hard to believe: Miesbach is allowed to renovate its outdoor swimming pool to the desired extent - despite all the financial problems.

The district office has already signaled its approval, and the finance committee has now also given the green light.

A breakthrough that is accompanied by words of warning.

Miesbach - Mayor Gerhard Braunmiller (CSU) made things exciting in the Finance Committee on Thursday evening.

First, thoughts on economic development, performance and new figures were presented until he finally announced the good news: the warm outdoor pool is being renovated in a large version.

The alternative, a makeshift repair, remains on the table.

According to Braunmiller, the district office, as the legal supervisory authority, “signaled its agreement” to approve the draft budget in preliminary discussions.

Not a given after the district town's long-term performance was denied in 2023.

This will not be achieved this year either, because the addition to the capital budget remains below the minimum limit.

: Strict discipline when spending money is a top priority

“I want to implement the project now,” confirmed Braunmiller.

The costs are estimated at 5.475 million euros, which will accrue in 2024 and 2025.

This year 1.5 million are expected, next year it will be four million.

Funding of over 2.7 million euros is also expected.

However: 900,000 euros are not eligible.

Braunmiller wants to create this “from his own resources with donations and sponsorship”.

For this purpose, a working group is to be set up after consultation with bathroom consultant Erhard Pohl (CSU) and support association chairman Bernhard Heidl.

Warning words

Even though the committee commented positively on the bathroom renovation, there were words of warning.

“A good step,” said Paul Fertl (SPD), who warned that sufficient staff for the pool had to be found early on.

He also complained that the budget assumes 2.5 million euros as income from property sales in the north industrial area, although this is not certain.

The debt level should now reach a maximum of 36 million euros.

Stefan Griesbeck (CSU) clearly demanded that reducing debts now had priority: “If we earn more than expected, we should use it to reduce the debts.” Braunmiller agreed: “We have to pay off debts.”

“Stop arousing desires”

Florian Perkmann (SPD), who initially thanked bathroom officer Pohl for his persistence, did not want to share Braunmiller's optimism in raising the 900,000 euros: "That is a lot of money, even if around 350,000 euros were donated for the adventure inclusion playground." To the citizens In view of the pressure to save money, one should no longer arouse desires from now on.

It is positive that more tax revenue is foreseeable with the expansion of the north industrial area.

A central argument, as treasurer Josef Schäffler confirmed at the beginning.

The 2024 budget is actually not eligible for approval, “but there were good discussions with the district office.”

Real estate revenue and more trade tax in the long term were the main points.

The city is now being “closely monitored”.

In the future there will no longer be any scope for voluntary services.

Lechner’s harsh criticism: “Blatant violation”

Michael Lechner (FL), however, rejected the budget outright: “It blatantly violates the principles of serious finance.

We are walking on such thin ice.” An accusation that Braunmiller did not want to accept: “That has no basis.”

Second Mayor Astrid Güldner (Greens) stated that citizens also had to make their contribution to the new pool.

“I can imagine increasing the entrance fee,” she says, referring to the 245,000 euro deficit per season.

“We subsidize every entrance fee with nine euros.” A path that Fertl doesn’t want to take: “One euro more still leaves 220,000 euros open.” When it comes to swimming, you have to be careful with the socially disadvantaged.

The budget was recommended to the city council against Lechner's vote.

Manfred Burger (Green Party) confessed: “I would never have thought that the draft would have the prospect of being approved.

It's a good thing with a lot of speculation.

But we’ve never voted on a budget that wasn’t difficult.”
