Paris 2024 Olympic Games: security and traffic perimeters are becoming clearer

2024-03-02T09:04:07.684Z

Highlights: The Paris 2024 Olympic Games are set to begin in less than a month. A new security plan has been drawn up for the Games. The plan includes a number of changes to the security measures in place at the time of the Games, as well as new measures to ensure the safety of the athletes. The new measures are expected to be implemented by the end of the year, with the aim of protecting the athletes and their families from any further attacks on their safety. The original plan was drawn up by the French government in 2007, but it has now been updated to include the new measures.

The Paris police chief, Laurent Nuñez, claims to have loosened the grip of restrictions and extended the list of exemptions.

Between an emerging controversy surrounding the project to install a Saudi Olympic Village in Les Invalides and a wave of panic caused by the loss of a bag, last Monday, containing security plans for the Olympic Games - before a denial by the Paris prosecutor's office -, the Paris police chief, Laurent Nuñez, continues, impassively, his mission: securing the next Olympic Games in Paris.

Less than four months before the event, which starts on July 26, the prefect carried out this Friday a progress update on the protection perimeters around the sites selected to host the events.

As he had committed to, since the very first presentation of this security plan at the end of November, Laurent Nuñez began a phase of consultation with all the stakeholders concerned, particularly those in the economic field, with a view to collecting their observations.

It is this revised plan, which takes into account numerous criticisms, which was presented.
