The members of the Seeshaupt fire department have been waiting for better working conditions in a modern fire department for nine years.

“But we have no idea when the time will finally come,” says Commander Hannes Knossalla when asked by the Kreisbote.

To ensure that the urgently needed million-dollar project is not delayed any longer by a Europe-wide tender, the local council decided last autumn to set up a municipal company and commission it with the construction (we reported).

Seeshaupt - At the general meeting, district fire councilor Rüdiger Sobotta made it clear that after many empty promises, the patience of the volunteers has come to an end: "The council members should put their personal sensitivities aside and take a look at the municipal regulations," he stated.

Mayor Fritz Egold did not address the quarrels over a new building, but thanked all the volunteers for their efforts.

An expansion has been called for for years because the 35-year-old home on Penzberger Straße is bursting at the seams and some of the equipment has to be outsourced.

The weir, founded in May 1877, moved from the current Trachtenheim to the new equipment house in 1989.

The vehicle fleet and buildings were state-of-the-art back then, but today the 46 active members urgently need more space for training, equipment, workshops and sanitary facilities.

This problem was known long before the council discussed the renovation and modernization in 2015, which should be completed by the end of 2016.

The changing rooms for women and men also have to be improvised due to the lack of space.

“We will soon no longer know what to do,” the fire brigade management wrote to the municipality of Seeshaupt three years ago.

The work of the defense force is “made extremely difficult by the quarrels” in the local council “and we are no longer willing to be made into a ping-pong ball for some council members”.

In the future, a municipal company will be responsible for ensuring that things finally move forward.

If everything goes well, the mayor hopes that the course can be set this year and concrete construction planning can begin.

Due to its dilapidation, the new construction yard is to be built first (we reported); Egold could easily imagine the new tool shed on the site of the previous construction yard building.

In his report, Commander Knossalla made it clear that the work of the volunteers is indispensable and sometimes even life-threatening.

The 119 missions last year included hotel, roof structure and sawmill fires, traffic accidents and technical assistance in the event of hail, snow and storms.

There were also numerous courses, meetings and exercises throughout the year, so that the number of hours worked was in the thousands.

“And all of this at any time of the day or night without knowing what to expect during the operation,” said Sobotta.

Trial day

Thanks to a well-established youth group, the Seeshaupter Wehr is not plagued by worries about young talent, but it is always happy to welcome interested young people and invites them to a trial day on April 20th.

An open day is planned for the entire population on September 14th, where citizens can see for themselves the cramped situation in the equipment shed.
