The Wasswewirtschaftsamt is finalizing work on the new flood protection on the Arzbach this year.

An entertainment measure is running at the same time.

Arzbach

- The residents of Arzbacher Alpenbadstrasse had to be patient last year, because construction work by the water management office to build a - sometimes controversial - flood protection wall continued from spring to winter.

This has now stood since the end of 2023, alternating along the two sides of the stream from the intersection of the state road bridge to the tennis courts.

Railing for the wall serves the safety of cyclists

There is still smaller work to be done this spring, as Franziska Marten from the Water Management Office in Weilheim (WWA) informed us upon request.

“There is still some locksmith work to be done.” A railing is now to be added to the flood protection wall.

“Among other things, this serves to ensure the safety of cyclists,” explains Marten.

In addition, the pedestrian bridge in front of the outdoor pool will have a barrier-free ramp.

The bridge is currently usable, but can only be reached via stairs.

Barrier-free ramp will be connected to bridge

Marten expects the remaining work to begin in April.

“The order has already been awarded.” The implementation of the measure is expected to take around a week.

The ramp and the railing will be installed at the same time.

“The Lenggries river master’s office will then raise the path slightly at the tennis courts so that you can see the same level of protection on both sides of the stream,” she explains.

It is also planned to set up concrete blocks between the footbridge at the swimming pool and the water level footbridge along the stream.

“The blocks are about 40 to 50 centimeters high and serve as seating.”

Parallel to the final work (as reported), maintenance work is underway on this section of the Arzbach.

The river master's office is renewing the channel, which Marten says is over 60 years old.

“It has some signs of aging and the embankment is no longer in the best condition,” explains Marten.

Work on the entertainment measure will continue after Easter and is expected to last until the end of the year, according to the WWA's forecast.
