President Javier Milei inaugurated the ordinary sessions of Congress this Friday with a fiery speech in which he also proposed that the governors sign a
"founding pact" in Córdoba
.
It consists of 10 points, with the "inviolability of private property" and the "non-negotiable fiscal balance", although in exchange he asked that the provinces support the Base Law and a new fiscal pact.
While in recent weeks the tension between the president and the provincial governors over federal co-participation escalated, Milei called on them to sign an agreement within the framework of the celebration of May 25, while criticizing them and demanding
that they leave "interests sideways"
.
Milei listed the ten points and almost at the same time the president's press office published a text titled "
Pact of May 25
", which he described as "a new founding pact for the Argentine Republic."
In any case, and as the formal text of the call indicates, this pact is
subject "to the prior approval of the presented 'Law Bases
and starting points for the freedom of Argentines' and new fiscal pact."
The ten points of the pact that Milei called
The inviolability of private property.
The non-negotiable fiscal balance.
The reduction of public spending to historical levels, around 23% of the Gross Domestic Product.
A tax reform that reduces tax pressure, simplifies the lives of Argentines and promotes trade.
The rediscussion of federal tax sharing to end forever the current extortionate model.
A commitment by the provinces to advance the exploitation of the country's natural resources.
A modern labor reform that promotes formal work.
A pension reform that gives sustainability to the system, respects those who contributed and allows those who prefer to subscribe to a private retirement system.
A structural political reform, which modifies the current system and realigns the interests of the representatives and those represented.
The opening to international trade, so that Argentina once again becomes a protagonist in the global market.

Milei closed his speech by calling the governors once again.
"You are facing a pivotal moment for Argentina, you can cling to an unjust system of which the vast majority of society is a victim, or you can put your interests aside, collaborate with our mission of change and help us transform the country and move on to posterity as patriots," he said.
Along those lines, he added: "If you choose to rise to the occasion and appear in Córdoba to sign the May Pact, both I and the Argentine people will recognize that gesture as an act of humility and courage and a clear sign that we can work together without grudges."
