"Connecting people and planet: exploring digital innovation in wildlife conservation": is the theme of World Wildlife Day, celebrated every year on March 3, to remember the relevance of wildlife and natural ecosystems for the balance of our planet, explains the official dedicated website of the United Nations.

The 2024 theme highlights how technology and innovation can drive nature conservation, sustainable and legal trade in wildlife and coexistence between wildlife and humans.

The Day is celebrated "to raise awareness of the fundamental role that biodiversity plays in maintaining a healthy environment in which we live, to promote awareness of the urgency of conserving and using natural resources in a sustainable way, emphasizing the importance of adopting measures to protect the rich variety of life on Earth. A collective commitment is therefore needed to guarantee a sustainable future for future generations", explains the UN.

World Wildlife Day was established on 20 December 2013, on the occasion of the General Assembly of the United Nations, with the aim of commemorating the adoption of the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES) on 3 March 1973 .
