Highlights: Jérôme Roux is a professor of public law at the University of Montpellier. He says that including the right to abortion in the fundamental law could threaten other constitutional rights and freedoms, such as freedom of conscience. TRIBUNE - For Jérôme Roux, professor of public law at the University of Montpellier, including the right to abortion in the fundamental law could threaten other constitutional rights and freedoms, such as freedom of conscience.

First constitutional revision in more than fifteen years, the one that has just been approved by an overwhelming majority, much higher than that required by three-fifths of the votes cast, Parliament meeting in Congress to include in article 34 of the Constitution "the

freedom guaranteed to the woman to have recourse to a voluntary termination of pregnancy

", resulted from an inconsistent exploitation of the law, at the highest level of the hierarchy of norms, by ideology.

Born from the excitement caused by the reversal of jurisprudence in 2022 by the Supreme Court of the United States which, returning to its Roe vs. Wade ruling of 1973, restored to the federated states the competence to legislate as they wish on abortion, this revision was unnecessary.

It is especially dangerous for other constitutional rights and freedoms.
