In just a few years, the converted elementary school in Dachau-Ost will be one of the largest and most modern school buildings in the district.

Yesterday the symbolic groundbreaking ceremony took place for the major project, which cost around 49 million euros.

Construction work on the new triple gymnasium on the school grounds is now almost complete.

The groundbreaking ceremony for the new school building has already been successful: primary school principal Andrea Noha, architect Simon Fiedler, building department manager Moritz Reinhold, Markus Haberl as head of the city's school and sports department, architect Ferdinand Krissmayr, Carola Böser from the building construction department Town hall, engineer David Franke and mayor Florian Hartmann (from left).

Dachau – Sports speaker Günter Dietz was happy to see: “It makes your heart smile,” he explained happily during the construction site inspection of the new triple gymnasium at the Dachau-Ost primary and secondary school.

What didn't just make Dietz happy: just 13 months after the symbolic groundbreaking, those responsible from the city council, town hall and the companies involved met again at the construction site to celebrate the topping-out ceremony.

Mayor Florian Hartmann, who was no less happy than Dietz, emphasized that the first children would be allowed to do gymnastics in the new gymnasium next winter.

With construction costs of just over 16 million euros, the major project is within the planned framework both in terms of time and money.

Indoor grandstand offers space for 199 spectators

But it's not just school children who will be able to play sports in the new hall.

The hall will also offer Dachau clubs a “modern infrastructure,” as the mayor promised.

Parking is at ground level, the hall is above the parking areas.

In addition to two so-called multifunctional rooms, where people can dance or box, for example, the hall will also offer space for 199 spectators on a grandstand.

Why exactly 199?

Because the Bavarian Meeting Place Ordinance (VStättV) sets much stricter requirements for groups of 200 or more people.

According to the city building authority, this affects numerous fire protection and ventilation issues, which – in total – would make the construction project significantly more expensive.

The three playing fields in the gymnasium, which are built in both solid and wooden frame construction, can be combined into one large field if necessary.

(By the way: Everything from the region is now also available in our regular Dachau newsletter.)

On the way to this new sports El Dorado, the elementary school students won't even have to go outdoors.

The gymnasium will have a direct connection from its first floor to the new elementary school building.

Last Monday was also an important date for this new school building: those responsible from the town hall, the responsible Dachau architectural firm GHK Architekten and the Munich engineering firm Mayr Ludescher Partner, which is responsible for the structural planning, met for the symbolic groundbreaking ceremony.

The expansion of the Dachau-Ost primary school is now scheduled to cost 48.7 million euros and will be built into the sky by the end of 2027.

“Without any exaggeration,” said Mayor Hartmann, this is the largest school construction project that the city has “implemented in decades.”

Seven trains and a modern learning house concept in a new school

In fact, the primary school will then offer space for seven classes – seven first, seven second, seven third and seven fourth grades.

After the primary school in Karlsfeld, which is also attended by Munich children and even has eight grades in some grades, the new Dachau primary school will be the second largest in the district.

While the primary school students are currently learning in containers, they will soon move into bright rooms, arranged according to the Munich learning house principle.

This means: The classrooms are arranged around a common center;

The individual “learning houses” of the school, which is actually large in organizational terms, give the children the feeling that they are being taught in a small school.

It doesn't look like sport yet, but in a few months the school children and club athletes from Dachau-Ost will have a state-of-the-art new sports hall here.

Since the children's everyday school life no longer only includes lessons, but also all-day care, the new school building will of course also be built with a new cafeteria, which, according to the mayor, can serve “almost 500 meals in two to three shifts”.

All in all, the mayor summarized, the dimensions of the construction site were “really something very special for everyone involved”.

Hartmann agreed with sports officer Dietz that such nice appointments “would ideally be done every week”.
