”, committed between 2021 and 2024. Hundreds of Senegalese then took to the streets to support the opponent Ousmane Sonko, arrested and then convicted twice for “defamation” and “corruption of youth”, and violent clashes took place between police and young demonstrators.
In recent weeks, hundreds of

detainees arrested on the sidelines of these demonstrations have been released from Senegalese prisons and placed on provisional release, as a first gesture of appeasement.
