At the close of the 139th edition of the Nice carnival, Saturday evening, Mayor Christian Estrosi announced the theme chosen for next year's festivities, as is tradition.
After putting “pop culture” in the spotlight for two weeks, the next theme will be in the city's news.
However, the organization of the carnival refused to do so this year by not choosing the sport while the Olympic Games will take place in France and the arrival of the Tour de France will exceptionally take place in the Riviera capital.

"Record"
When drawing up an initial assessment, Christian Estrosi (Horizons) was pleased to
“beat the record of the last 20 years”
with nearly 230,000 spectators who attended respectively the six corsos and four flower battles on Place Masséna and one part of the Promenade des Anglais.
Five stands in total had been installed for these colorful and musical parades, banking on a youthful look this year.
The elected official also underlined the
“more popular”
aspect of the festivities thanks to the carnivals organized in Nice neighborhoods but also the removal of the barriers on the sea side, even if the black fences around the festivities still made the oldest carnival-goers cringe.
On the Prom', a new grandstand with 1000 seats had also been installed.
This system should be renewed next year and consideration will be given to increasing the number of places at this location.
Despite the rain, the fireworks for the end of the carnival on the Promenade des Anglais were able to go off on Saturday evening.
