"The tariffs that from 1 July will be applied to vulnerable customers who remain in the protected electricity market will be higher than those of customers who leave it".

The president of the public energy agency, Arera, Stefano Besseghini, said this in a hearing before the Environment Commission of the Chamber on the results of the auctions for the supply of electricity after the end of the protected market.

"The auction rates", explained the president of Arera, "are discounted, to acquire the value of customers, with a view to medium-term investments".

There are also "numerous cases of offers at negative values".

"It is worth asking ourselves - concluded Besseghini - whether this was the configuration that the legislator intended to pursue, and whether, having positively evaluated the outcome of the auctions for the gradual protection service, further interventions in relation to vulnerable customers should not also be considered".
