Waste in the protected area - that's not possible.

LBV helpers found garbage on the Caprivi peak on the Zeitler meadows near Kampberg at the weekend.

Kampberg

– What do a metal bed frame, a metal bucket and an electrical cable have in common?

The State Association for Bird Protection in the Starnberg district asks this provocative question and makes it unmistakably clear in a statement that these objects do not belong in nature.

LBV district group chairman Stefan Schilling found it at the weekend on the so-called Caprivi peak on the Zeitler meadows near Kampberg.

He was deployed there to carry out nursing measures.

“He had noticed rubbish and rubbish in this area for a long time,” says the LBV.

“So he took courage and wanted to collect the rubbish and dispose of it.” After all, he was busy for three hours.

In a ditch he found wine bottles, spray cans, batteries, electrical cables, a lounger, a metal bed, a metal bucket, plastic cans and plastic bags.

Rubbish thrown away carelessly or intentionally is not only increasingly blighting the landscape, it goes on to say.

“There is a risk of animals becoming entangled or injured in the garbage.

Breeding birds use plastic to build nests.

When it rains, water can collect in the nests.

This can lead to the young birds freezing or drowning.

Small mammals such as hedgehogs can also get caught in plastic cups or beverage cans.” Apart from that, throwing away such objects in forests and fields is at least considered an administrative offense.

“Depending on the federal state and the type and quantity of the item disposed of, this is punished with fines, which in extreme cases can be up to 100,000 euros,” says the LBV.

Illegal waste disposal could also constitute a criminal offense.

“Garbage does not belong in the landscape, but must be disposed of properly,” demands the LBV and asks for more consideration for nature in order not to endanger the well-being of plants and animals.

“After all, we all enjoy untouched, diverse nature,” the statement says.
