It reads like the script of a Hollywood film: A prisoner who was in Bad Reichenhall has spectacularly escaped from prison.

Bad Reichenhall - Anyone who thought something like this only worked in films - well, a prisoner from Bavaria has proven them wrong.

Because a 29-year-old broke out of prison in Bad Reichenhall at the end of 2023 with a spoon and a bedsheet.

In the end he was caught - and now convicted again.

Inmate breaks out of prison with spoon and bed sheet - Convicted of criminal damage

In mid-December, a 29-year-old escaped from the Bad Reichenhall prison.

He had used a spoon and a toilet paper holder to scrape off the plaster on the wall of his cell so that he could then break out the brick.

Then he squeezed through the 30 by 30 centimeter hole and rappelled down with a bed sheet - the cinematic escape was perfect.

The man now had to answer for this in court.

The reason he gave for the outburst was that he wanted to see his one-year-old daughter.

And in fact: When the prisoner was finally arrested, he was found at his family's home in Traunstein.

The outbreak itself is not punishable under German law - as long as it is not accompanied by other crimes, such as bodily harm or damage to property.

However, the latter is the case here - the 29-year-old was sentenced to seven months in prison without parole.

Thief with multiple convictions - child pornography content was also found on his cell phone

The man has been in custody since the beginning of last year.

He is accused of serious gang theft in more than 30 cases as well as disturbing the peace of the dead and damaging property.

Together with two accomplices, he is said to have stolen sacred objects from, among other things, cemeteries and churches.

During the arrest, files containing child pornographic content were also found on his cell phone.
