Elon Musk is suing OpenAI and its CEO Sam Altman, accusing them of compromising the startup's original mission of creating artificial intelligence systems that benefit humanity by prioritizing profits.
Musk, who helped create OpenAI with Altman and others in 2015, says the company's partnership with Microsoft represents an abandonment of the principle of developing AI carefully and making the technology widely available.

“OpenAI has been effectively transformed into a division of Microsoft,” reads the lawsuit, which represents the latest chapter in the battle between Musk and Altman that has been going on for years.
Musk left OpenAI's board of directors in 2018, and the company has since become a leader in generative AI and created ChatGPT.
Musk, who runs an AI company called xAI, believes OpenAI is not focused enough on the existential risks the technology poses to humanity.
In documents filed in court, Musk recalls that OpenAI was created as a non-profit to develop artificial intelligence for the benefit of humanity.
