Sunday rolls with a difference: With this ingenious quick recipe you can conjure up a delicious focaccia in no time at all that tastes like “Bella Italia”.

Focaccia is a flat-baked bread that has its origins in Italy and is certainly one of the most famous loaves in the world.

Traditionally it is made from a yeast dough that is refined with olive oil, salt and herbs.

The focaccia can be enjoyed on its own, but can also be topped with various toppings, such as cheese, ham, vegetables or olives.

If you like it spicier, add a few chili peppers on top for a spicy focaccia.

However, preparing focaccia is not always easy.

Kneading the dough requires some practice and letting it rise can take several hours, including various folds.

If you don't have the time or desire to wait for a focaccia with homemade yeast dough, you can use this ingenious quick recipe from Simply Tasty editor Sandra.

Simply perfect for anyone who craves oven-fresh bread with a Mediterranean flair, but doesn't have time for long kneading and rising.

For the best possible focaccia taste, you shouldn't skimp on the oil despite the increased olive oil prices, even if there are olive oil alternatives.

This is the only way the bread gets wonderfully crispy and crumbly on the outside.

And even if we are talking about a quick recipe: of course you can forego the half-hour resting time when using Sunday rolls, as they are usually ready to bake, but the result is only improved by letting them rise for a short time, we promise.

For a lightning focaccia you only need a few ingredients:

  • Remove the Sunday rolls from the packaging and separate them from each other.

Place the pieces of dough next to each other in a baking dish that has been brushed with a little olive oil.

Cover and let rest in a warm place for about 30 minutes until the dough pieces have visibly increased in volume.

  • Preheat oven to 200 °C fan oven.

  • Make indentations in the dough with your fingers.

Drizzle with plenty of olive oil and top with toppings of your choice such as olives, sun-dried tomatoes, rosemary and sea salt.

  • Bake in the preheated oven until golden brown, about 15 minutes, until the dough is cooked through.

  • Zack – done!

  • Easy Tasty Tip:

If you don't want to preheat the oven, you can also prepare the focaccia in the hot air fryer at the same temperature.

We recommend using a suitable paper bowl to collect the olive oil.
