,” denounced Junior Hekurari Yanomami, president of the Urihi association, on his Instagram account.

The reason: the return of gold miners, whose presence has increased again after having initially decreased during the first half of the year.

According to the Ministry of Health, 308 Yanomamis died between January and November 2023, barely less than the 343 deaths in 2022. And the number of malaria cases has exploded, from around 16,000 in 2022 to 25,000 in 2023. The total population in this indigenous territory…
